2014 stands as a defining moment for the RAM Records imprint. Not only did it announce the pivotal signing of artists like Audio, Teddy Killerz and Bensley but they also oversaw the birth of compilation series RAMLife hosted by Loadstar. Even in its first form, it contained nearly every essential release the last twelve months had to offer.

But this year, RAMLife is taking you into deeper and murkier dimensions. Having already flexed his production muscle on the ricocheting, four-track 'Nil by Mouth' EP, as well as his first visual debut in the music video for 'Heads Up', it's now time for Audio to cut open and expose his musical psyche.

Including some of the most aggressive, technically adept and prominent artists the genre has to offer, including Bad Company, Optiv & BTK and Noisia to name a few, no stone goes unturned for the album's entirety. Audio also throws bass-fuelled bullets in the form of exclusives, with explosive VIPs that have yet to be released.

The brand new cut 'Foodchain' from Audio sets a theme which is prevalent throughout all 27 tracks. Uncompromising yet diligently crafted, it leads you into a freight train of musicality which holds you hostage from start to finish. Zipping through to the mechanical composition of Mefjus' 'Brainwork', all the way back to Spor's heavy-hitting 'Bullet Time' remix; this is a no holds barred exploration of the genre's darker side.

But what can you expect from the man who garners such an explosive reputation across the club circuit? Audio brings his live personality into the whole album and accompanying mix; one that doesn't let you pause for breath. They're a collection of tracks that'll leave an atomic bomb sized impression inside the community, which further solidifies his reputation as an ever- growing, unstoppable goliath.

'Muskoka' by Bensley set out to define him as an artist who uses his talent to explore the full scope of what electronic music has to offer. Never limiting himself to one tempo or prototype, he showed fans throughout 2019 that his development on the Ram platform has seen his artistry grow without restrictions. Taken from the LP, ‘Secrets’ ft. Sarah Carmosino highlights Bensley’s same direction for this year, pinpointed through its assembled looseness and laid-back rhythms, whilst Sarah’s vocals lay seamless against its melodies.

US artist Flite presents the single’s reverse, producing a turbulent drum & bass twist with gritty bass breakdowns. Hand selecting Flite for the rework, Bensley returns on Ram whilst maintaining his imaginative consistency on the label.

The annual drum & bass mecca is nearly upon us. Every year, thousands of drum & bass revellers descend on Prague’s Let it Roll festival, a gathering which has expanded and become one of the genre’s largest celebrations. The global drum & bass elite meet for three days of explosive line ups. And once again the definitive imprint Ram Records is taking over with their groundbreaking roster, preparing to unleash their formidable sounds onto Let it Roll’s vast audience.

It’s not just the live aspect which makes Let it Roll such a revered part of the drum & bass world; it’s the releases which help build anticipation for the festival. This year, Ram Records delivers another four track EP to set the mood for their forthcoming takeover, featuring special guests and Ram’s renowned names for an explosive introduction to the Let it Roll experience.

Rene LaVice needs little introduction, with his offering ‘Back’ making a welcome return to the signature which has become a resounding part of the Ram back catalogue. ‘Back’ drags you into a sonic landscape which ebbs and flows between each drum break, taking you deeper and deeper with shaking percussion and a climatic second breakdown. Rene’s delivery is followed by next guest Sound in Noise, who returns to Ram for the aggressive sonic assault ‘WHAT!’. Each spike of distortion punches through to the synapses, creating a carefully manufactured yet disjointed drum & bass track which is sure to get crowds moving.


The EP provides a snapshot into what Ram has in store for Let it Roll –let them soundtrack the countdown. And with roster stalwarts Calyx & Teebee taking on the opening ceremony, this year will be the biggest yet for the label with the clock ticking for their Czech invasion.

The name ‘Raiser’ won’t resonate for many drum & bass listeners. That’s because they’ve come from relative obscurity; they’ve clearly refined their sound over a number of years, which makes it an intriguing signing for Ram Records. Although the label is well known for taking on many a newcomer, on first listen of Raiser’s ‘The Weapon’, links could be made to a number of artists who’ve spent their time on Ram, building their signature sound and fan base. And that’s what makes this signing so fascinating – as with the type of sonics displayed throughout ‘The Weapon’, Raiser’s anonymous dancefloor takeover is on the horizon.

‘The Weapon’ is an undeniably huge opening salvo, with a crunching bassline which zips through the mix like a knife. Its epic build and freefalling breakdowns make it a contender within the Ram back catalogue, providing another slick release with enviable production levels. Ram wasn’t the beginning of Magnetude’s path, but it’s an imprint which as represented a home for the Anglo-Russian duo and it’s a place where they’ve been able to explore their creativity. However, it’s their raucous, dancefloor cuts which have created a place for them within the 25-year strong Ram Records back catalogue and it’s ensured they’ve become a buy-on-site duo for DJs across the drum & bass spectrum. But for their next release, they’ve decided to slow down the tempo and focus on a different side of their production repertoire. Joining them is long-time collaborator Julia Marks, who adds her stunning vocal crescendos and heartfelt lyricism into the mix for their forthcoming single ‘Before the Dawn’.

‘Before the Dawn’ still orchestrates the same sonic altitudes which Magnetude have presented throughout their previous singles on Ram, including the likes of ‘Arcade’ and ‘Snatch’ - although the emotions which mould with the distorted-bass rhythms and peaking synthesizers of ‘Before the Dawn’ bring you through to another part of their musical capabilities. The record highlights how Magnetude aren’t just drum & bass producers; they stretch their talents throughout a range of subgenres, which is also something Ram became renowned for during dance music’s explosion into the commercial sphere.
On the reverse, there’s a drum & bass mix for fans who crave for their beats to be at a quicker pace. Whilst the pulse quickens, it still features the emotive patches which rise above the track’s grittier drum sequences. They come thicker and faster, pushing forward with a more driving bassline as you’re given a track which provides both a set climax, and even a perfect intro.
Already spearheaded by the likes of Andy C, ‘Before the Dawn’ is a statement from Magnetude and gives another clear insight into the newcomer’s ambitions. With more music already prepared for the New Year, it’s about to be another very determined twelve months for Magnetude, alongside an already impressive output of releases.

The success of Sound in Noise’s ‘Shapes EP’ on Ram Records saw the Estonian producer once again establish himself as a defining part of the roster’s new wave of artists, those who are bringing in a new era. With support from imperative industry figures such as BBC Radio 1 and US blogging behemoth Your EDM, the follow up has been hotly anticipated after the critical acclaim of its first edition. This November part two is dropping and with it comes four brand new tracks from the producer, the type of which redefine the Sound in Noise style and expose an even wider sonic language.
From the growling patches of static bass peddled throughout '13', through to the VIP treatment given to ‘Duppy Bass’, Sound In Noise comes with a host of fresh offerings on the Ram Records moniker. The 100th part of Program’s discography is about to drop and with it you’re reminded of a huge part of the imprint’s history, spanning across a colossal number of releases and representing an important section of the drum & bass underground. Split into three parts, Program 100 will realign you with the sounds which gained the international attention which Ram’s sister label now enjoys, having broken away from its counterpart whilst creating its own place within the dance music market. For its first package, you’re given remixes, exclusives and VIPs as part of the Sampler. And these include tracks which have been heralded as this year’s most sought after dubs, by the likes of trend setting players such as UKF and Red Bull.
 
Marking the first part of its track listing, the growling Skantia rework of LoKo’s ‘Bassline Secret’ will be a welcome introduction for many drum & bass listeners. Ram Records stalwarts Calyx & Teebee then have their take on Legion & Logam’s ‘House of Cards’, before Eastcolors' ‘Toys’ gets the VIP treatment. Fascad makes his Program debut with ‘Bull’ and Eazy’s ‘Lushen’ oozes with the technical Program vibe. Rounding off the sampler is Glitch City & Night Shift’s ‘Spider’s Web’ and they make their first appearance on Program yet fit perfectly within its ranks, delivering a murkier undertow from their usual offerings. In just six tracks, the label’s team have painstakingly selected music which defines its journey, from its beginnings to now. So once again, it’s time to get with the Program, although this time its for its most expansive sequence to date.

Locked away in sonic solitude, Mind Vortex have been building these next four cuts with absolute precision. And being such a pivotal signing for the RAM imprint, it's no surprise that this EP has been met with almost unbearable anticipation.
Few acts capture the vibrancy and pent-up energy that Mind Vortex commands. Another charged assault on the ears, the 'Colours EP' is definitely a return to form. An impressive feat, having already set the bar high with tracks like 'Hotbox' being showcased on label head Andy C's revered Nightlife series.
Next up is 'Colours', alluding to Mind Vortex's different stylistic dimensions. With a cinematic soundscape and emotionally lead vocals, it's tenderly spoken but doesn't lack in impact. A muscular bassline sits beneath grinding percussion, which is softened by loops of beat arpeggios. Sure-fire club anthems are what Mind Vortex capture perfectly and 'Colours' pedestals this form of art at its finest.
One of their biggest releases to date, expect this EP to resound in both underground dancehalls and the headphones of dnb-heads everywhere. These four blasting production behemoths will ensure that Mind Vortex stay on the agenda's forefront.

With Zane Lowe pedestalling the first glimpse into Bensley's diverse soundscape, 'Fandango' was a precursor for this forthcoming debut. 'Next Generation' is a bold move; with drum & bass being a genre which has certainly stood the test of time, newcomers have incredibly big shoes to fill. However, Bensley incorporates an innovative and incredibly intricate set of production skills to hold a title of his own.
But what can you expect from an artist who was signed after sending a single demo to revered label head Andy C. That's despite having no previous releases or having any other music available to stream online. He was somewhat of a mystery.
'Fandango' was that track. And it was premiered as a world exclusive on leading tastemaker Radio1, which followed with support from the likes of Mistajam on 1xtra, as well as DJs on both Kiss and XFM.
Already demonstrating his widespread appeal with just one track, his air of mystery is now about to be broken. He's definitely an anomaly; being only nineteen and having impressed so many people.
'Next Generation' is a 10-track journey through an impressively diverse soundscape. Whether it's half-time breakdowns or the incorporation if cross genre-pollination it shows an astounding ability which will not go unrecognised.
From the opening bars of 'Wildfire', to the softly spoken pads and atmospheric note arpeggios of 'Rain Dance', then wrapped up by aptly named closing track 'Aftermath', there's no denying Bensley's masterful artistry.
Title-track 'Next Generation' leads you by the hand with snippets of humanistic sample, flowing in and out of its construct. It's built upon by striking note progressions, a relaying of patterns which chop and change the mix. Carefully placed subs add impact, with emphasis given on each break, carrying the track forward down a steep drop with each slab of bass.
Drawing together a dizzying and fresh array of new sounds, this album indicates why Bensley is a forerunner within the new generation of music comers. Its representative of the fast paced technological setting of music production he grew up around; it also proves that Bensley is able to tap into dimensions which are often unheard of in other bodies of work.

RAM - O2 Brixton Academy Aftermovie - feat Andy C, Wilkinson, Loadstar + more

Halloween weekend 2013, saw us step up and take over the infamous O2 Brixton Academy for the first time. Not only our biggest London event to date, but also a line up hand picked - representing the true quality that resides in DnB today. Andy C delivered one of his legendary extended sets, Wilkinson's performed and showcased his latest Lazer Not Included album tour featuring live P.A.S from Arlissa and P Money, followed by the shinning stars of Ram's roster and complimented by main room guests Phace & Misanthrop and Brookes Brothers. For the VIPS, Ram's new label ProgRamHosted. The label launched in the celebration of Ram's double decade achievement and has gone from strength to strength launching some of the hottest new producers out there. As well as all that, PACK London the promoters behind Outlook Festival, hosted the foyer.

‘Club Thug’ is the homecoming that DC Breaks fans have been waiting for. It's the first track from their new DCXV project, a celebration of 15 years of DC Breaks which will be dropping throughout 2020. ‘Club Thug’ is an amalgamation of the duos' signature dancefloor sound over the last 15 years. It conjures up memories of club anthems tracks like ‘Swag’, ‘Lock In’ and ‘Gambino’, some of the most revered dancefloor-orientated records of their time. 

With its growling, moody sub bass and signature DC Breaks drums, ‘Club Thug’ appeals directly to the audience the producers have spent nearly two decades building. A certified dancefloor smasher, it takes their sound to new levels and kick starts the fifteenth year of DC Breaks with a bang.
