Daniel comes from a long line of Jewish American nomadic artists, and he continues to build on this tradition. Bridging a documentary background with cinematic storytelling, his work searches out home, humanity, and mystery wherever he focuses his lens: ranging from work with the Decemberists and Jay Z, to his most recent documentary about the fight over the world’s largest Confederate monument, Stone Mountain. His previous films and commercials have been nominated for a Cannes Lion, two Emmys, and played at SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals.
"How do you break free from a part of your past? How do you bring about transformation? I’ve been thinking a lot about these questions on the brutal days of winter in upstate New York. The sun was setting every day at three. Mist would come and hang in the gully by my house. Sometimes I’d walk 20 feet from my back door and get lost."
"The idea with the video was to collaborate with a cinematographer, dancer and choreographer to create something ritualistic--to embody this feeling and to shake it. The piece aims to honor the moments when we get lost and the will to live that gets us through them."
"U2 is my sister’s favorite band. As a result, I know most of their lyrics through sibling osmosis."

Alexandra Thurmond is a director and creative director originally from Long Beach, California.
“I’ve always been obsessed with music and movies, and love working at the intersection of the two. Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to work that explores relationships, our connection to ourselves and others, and to the world around us.”
U2 is one of those bands that has always felt iconic, from the first time I heard their music as a kid, to watching their videos on MTV. Beyond the music, I always admired their activism and outspoken support of the causes they believed in.
When I started thinking about this project, I wanted to make something that continued that spirit, and as I started looking through references, I came across a photo I’d taken of Steve.
If you live on the East Side, chances are you’ve seen Steve Sharp. Every Friday evening, he stands at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset with a double-sided sign that says ‘Spread Love,’ ‘Celebrate Peace’. I’d driven by him many times over the years, and it would always make my day to see him out there. His energy is infectious.
When I got in touch about the project, I learned that he’d been doing this for over 20 years. What started as a protest against the invasion of Iraq, with hundreds of other supporters, has become a personal vigil for Steve: “I’m no longer protesting anything, I’m promoting peace in my own way.’ I am so honored that he wanted to be a part of this video, and grateful that U2 has given us the chance to share his story, and promote peace, from the streets of LA.”

Clyde Munroe is a director and editor from Pittsburgh, PA. She grew up filming her siblings constantly, they spent most of their free time shooting mock music videos and shorts around their neighborhood. Her family inspired her to pursue directing professionally, which she is now doing full time in LA.
“In spirit of U2 reimagining their songs - our video reimagines the character from the 1993 video. We show her driving 30 years later, finally at peace and living the life the original video had hoped for. When I think of U2 I think about driving to school with my dad blasting Vertigo with the windows down. I have so many happy memories from that time associated with their songs. This video pays tribute to the character, but also to the nostalgic joy U2’s music evokes.”
