Vivrant's second release of 2021 follows up on the first volume of the label’s new Commune VA series, which featured Swedish godfather of Techno Joel Mull, label boss Jeremy Olander, German virtuoso Sascha Braemer as well as Viggo Dyst, Carl Dern and Lexer. The Stockholm-based label’s 26th release gives us the return of man of the hour Marino Canal in the form of the reimagined 'Vangelis Dreams' EP, Marino’s debut project on Vivrant, featuring remixes from Afterlife standout Coeus, legend in the game Dominik Eulberg and Danish up-and-comers Baime.

First out the gates is Baime with their reinterpretation of lead track 'Vangelis Dreams'. While maintaining the mystic and tranquil nature of the original, the Danish duo, which has previous releases on Radikon, Watergate and Elements, adds an additional layer of sawtooth bass lines and paranormal FX, creating a grittier and more raw track perfectly fitting for the wee hours of the afters.

Second in line is Coeus. A staple name in the record bags of Tale of Us, Solomun, Adriatique and Dixon, this Serbian standout has become synonymous with the next wave of Balkan producers. His style of atmospheric, sinister yet melodic productions are a hand-in-glove fit with the vocal elements in 'Calling Me Back', and his contribution brings a dimension of groove to the track and gives it a given spin towards the peak time of your set.

Last but certainly not last; Dominik Eulberg. As the second quarter of 2020 begins AMPISH returns to his Sidra imprint with a three track EP. The French/Egyptian artist continues to be one of electronic music’s most talented producers, where his fresh take on melodic house has earned support from the genre’s premiere tastemakers. With releases on Crossings, Bad Pony, Flora, Balkan Connection and Songspire highlighting his discography, AMPISH now returns to his comfortable home of Sidra with ‘The Uncertainty Principle’.

Having been a favorite of world class DJ Solomun for many months, it is the much in demand title track that leads the EP off. Anchored by a tight punchy groove, it’s rhythmic core comes up quickly, with layers of electric lines, ethereal shades and vibrant tones. Fragmented metallics then steal the air amidst waves of noise and percussive flurries, before a timely break pushes tension and anticipation higher into a groovy finale.

After the first V.A. of the label it's time for another regular EP. This time the Berlin based duo Klankveld provides two originals, of which 'Evolve' the title track. Both originals are impactful vocal tracks, which are a little bit less dark as usual, but still the tracks are perfectly fitting into the sound of the label. The second track, called 'Habit', got a great remix by the very talented Yuven.

The title track 'Evolve' starts off already very strong. From the first minute a catchy and danceable melody strikes the ear after which it moves over to the first vocal part. Where the vocal is soft and emotional, the musical parts are high energetic and right into the face. This together makes it a interesting and well balanced whole.

The second track, 'Habit', brings the tension and the danceability a little bit higher. Through the composition they managed to create some effective unexpected moments in which the impressive vocal plays a big part. This all reaches the pinnacle at the final part of the track.

In his remix Yuven took the vocal of the original and gave a deeper and more compelling fundament. On this fundament the vocal flows gently through the track, when suddenly the this gentle wave got broken down by a powerful and slightly aggressive moment. After this the vocal comes back in again, which brings the EP to a beautiful end.

The Chacabuco resident continued to find success across the remainder of the year, with Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden being the landing spot for Bautista’s ‘Eternal Seconds’. Forging a bond with the legendary DJ and regarded label, Bautista returned for a second appearance in July of this year with a contribution to the label’s ‘Summer Collection’. In addition to his original projects, Bautista turned his attention to reworking ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’ by Lana Del Rey. The end result was a deep, emotive gem that has garnered play and support from Hernan Cattaneo, Eelke Kleijn, Tony McGuinness and Marsh.
