A sound which has filtered through clubs across the globe, Culture Shock’s music is yet again blazing the trail. And since the significant passing of an unmarked demo, his journey’s been watched diligently from every corner of the drum & bass community.
Standing as a marker, ‘City Lights’ represents what Culture Shock means to his fan base. After doing the club circuits and developing into one of scene’s most notorious dubs, its release was met with great anticipation. As a result, Culture Shock has become a buzzword for the genre’s trophy cabinet, coming with yet more fresh cuts to unleash onto an unsuspecting audience.
Already becoming the centrepiece in his sets worldwide, whether at Prague’s seminal Let It Roll festival or London’s biggest electronic music showcase at SW4, the wait for this next single is now over.
‘Have it all’ takes you back into a musicianship which is inherently his. Ripping through on steppy pads and a flickering bassline, prepare to be taken through on a manufacturing line of elevating synths. Flurries of enriching sonic take you deeper and deeper into the mix, one held together tightly through its vocals. Giving a hook between each figure of eight, the track’s melody is administrated in a way which is seldom seen outside of Culture Shock’s productions. It’s time to realign yourself with a producer who created his own paradigm.
‘Pandemic’ presents a flipside which pushes you into choppier waters. Low-frequency bass drives you forward, whilst the hollow 808 drum patterns delves you even further through its composition. Wavering distortion gives it a more menacing feel, whilst its metallic, tinny processing keeps you held from beginning to end. Culture Shock delivers another blow and his career is yet again driving forward. Although this time, there are no signs of stopping, with a host of new releases lined up for the coming six months…

Drum & bass producer Frankee began his DJing career at one of the most prestigious drum & bass record labels dance music had to offer. Ram Records enlisted the budding producer following his consecutive releases on their sister imprint Program, known for pushing the grittiest sounds the underground pedestalled. However, following his ascent and worldwide tours on the club circuit, Frankee has pushed his undeniably heavyweight production standard into every corner.

Since his exclusive signing to Ram Records, he’s dropped both hard-hitting dancefloor shakers and emphatic liquid rollers. Slowly building his discography beside Ram, Frankee has moved from strength to strength, proving a wealth of talent that clearly bloom across his next few releases.

The announcement of his debut LP and worldwide tour, which included a show-stopping performance at Russia’s Pirate Radio Station, saw him return with another single to further raise the anticipation for his forthcoming album. Nobody Cares derives from the softly spoken rhythms which have helped to platform his diversity as an artist. Nobody Cares rolls out on carefully padded beats and strung out, diced up vocal melody. Frankee brings forward his softer elements, pushing them through a meticulously fashioned record. It provides the flipside to the darker side of his repertoire, made infamous by tracks like Gully and Pandorum. Frankee once again ensures he stays at the top of his game, providing another step towards his greatest body of work yet.

Nobody Cares represents a part of the journey Frankee has taken, one which will result in another monumental album for Ram Records. Alongside the withstanding imprint, he’ll continue his path to with a continuously impressive musicality.

The relationship between Mob Tactics and Ram has stretched throughout the years, with the duo becoming regulars amongst the label’s index. They now make another appearance on the label, after the release of their ‘Ram Rave’ exclusive and the success of their breaks-heavy single ‘LDN Bass’. Although this time, it’s for a four-track EP, their biggest body of work to date on ram and one which solidifies their connection with the imprint. From the chaotic, footwork inspired sounds of ‘Thumper’, through to the steppy note rhythms of ‘Clipped’, there’s a taste to fit every palette. With its futuristic samples, ‘Eject’ follows whilst ‘Bulldozer’ focuses on its fluctuating, bass-heavy impact. Mob Tactics now sit firmly within the Ram moniker and their ‘Eject’ EP signifies exactly why.

Mob Tactics have steadily become a notable part of the Ram Records army, with several releases demonstrating why they’ve gone from occasional guests to consistent members of its schedule. After delivering the sounds of the ‘Eject EP’ at the start of 2020, the duo follow up with ‘Pure X’.
Most revered for their ferocious club records, ‘Pure X’ is no different. With an opening sequence which first misleads the listener before they're pulled through patches of jungle-esque drum positioning, Mob Tactics go for the jugular. 'Pure X' is another dancefloor smasher from the guys, which takes contemporary standards and moulds them against the old-school prototype.

Chroma
1: 201 Dub 2: Sovereign

The name Chroma has echoed through the drum and bass community since their output as a collaborative project.
Individually, they've already been hosted by a number of pronounced record labels, being met by critical acclamation from across the business. But returning to underground tastemaker Program, Chroma's next production will resonate in your minds for a while. Their style has ensured longevity, whilst dipping into the futuristic sounds that makes contemporary drum and bass so forward thinking. And trust us, this one is no different.
Rolling out first is '201 Dub' which highlights the trios consistency at putting out heartfelt bass-slabs that can reach an intimidating depth of musicality. Plucky, powerful and precisely laid out, this track leaves a lasting impression for the whole release. Beginning with a skit that lays beneath its structure, you're instantly aware of the ragga-style vocal that fades between carefully constructed beat patterns. Enticing you further into the mix, its driving pace never fluctuates yet continuously holds the wraithlike vibe which Chroma seem to conjure seamlessly.
A record that quivers with power and with a bassline that reverberates throughout, 'Sovereign' continues with the same authority. At times you're caught unaware by its drifting humanism and the slight nod to the record's softer elements. This track opens their repertoire like a door, with the insistent kick of drums and skip of sample which weaves between loops of the amen break. Peppered with dynamic riff patterns, commanding your attention, the record is broken up by thoughtful breaks. As a result, they give you time to reflect on the versatility that Chroma is renowned for.
Going beyond the prototype and establishing themselves as a formidable force within the genre, this isn't the last you'll hear from the trio.
So once again, it's time to get with the Program!

The forthcoming album Different Breed from DC Breaks has been years in the making. Featuring a massive fifteen tracks and including some of their best loved singles from recent years, DC Breaks have delivered a massive feat that will ensure their place within the drum & bass anthology. From their song writing ability to their wide-ranging DJ support, the producers’ output has shone through in playlists across the dance music spectrum. From BBC Radio1’s Annie Mac, to 1xtra’s Mistajam and revered music icon Zane Lowe, they’ve received a plethora of A-list spins.
Having made multiple festival appearances across the last two years, including NASS, Arcadia Glastonbury, Beyond Wonderland and Prague’s infamous Let it Roll, they’ve become a staple on the DJ circuit. They’ve teased many album tracks out to huge crowds of drum & bass lovers, taking festival sets into vocal crescendos and sonic annihilation with their hard-hitting, no holds-barred anthems.
Including their recent collaboration with underground heavyweight Prolix for Infinity, the renowned VIP for DC Breaks’ classic Gambino, the jump-up vibes of Underground and the uplifting-melodies of Never Stop (which helped to sound track the Olympics, Formula 1 and Match of the Day) and Everybody, Different Breed also includes huge array of fresh cuts. Dipping their feet once again into the world of neuro, MC Nuklear joins them on Dead or Alive for an intimidating cut whilst Vendetta moulds their signature basslines into an even darker realm. Remember, Step Up, Organism and Hustle also jump into the fray, proving that DC Breaks discography still has its grittier side that snaps its jaws with every break.
On the other end of the spectrum sits records like Time to Kill ft. Diane Birch, who offers her climatic high-notes for a dynamic roller, as well as Moving On and No One Like You ft. Niara Scarlett, adding a soulful dash to an already impressive set of featuring artists. And lastly, SWAG 2017 makes an appearance, a rework of the track which catapulted DC Breaks onto Beatport’s number one position for a month.
Different Breed will stand as a testament to not just their longevity, but their experience and growth as artists throughout decades. Released on Ram Records, another resounding name within the electronic scene, their debut LP will be met with anticipation from both old and new fans. It also signifies another monumental part of their journey. A journey not looking to be over anytime soon.

___

With one foot placed firmly in Vienna and the other in the UK, Akov has extracted the very best from each scene and injected this into his music. Everything from his production, live presence and persona as an artist is notorious, which has led to him being one of the most renowned newcomers from over the past two years. And it's since given him a platform through Ram’s sister-label Program. It’s the home of his forthcoming single ‘No More’ and ‘Lights Out’, following his unique release on the Ram Record's 2020 compilation ‘Troubles’ ft. MC Mota and Urso. Although this time, it’s a return to his no-holds-barred, stripped back sound.

With the plucky, driving energy of ‘No More’ being delivered alongside the upfront, bass-twisting elements of ‘Lights Out’, it’s once again time to get with the Program. Although this time, it’s with Akov taking you into his own design.

Subtension - 'Voices'

Taken from the Ram Annual 2020
Buy / Stream: https://RAM.lnk.to/RAM2020ID

A yearly tradition, the Ram Records annual is set to drop at the end of another massive year for the imprint. For nearly three decades the label has stood ahead of the game and this has been marked by an incredible back catalogue of music. The 2020 annual is just another example of this fact and it features a host of exclusives, from both signed artists and frequent Ram guests, who explore the sounds which have marked the last twelve months of its journey. With stand-out singles from the likes of Culture Shock, Skantia and more of the Ram Records roster, there’s also a plethora of brand-new music about to drop with the full package.

Russian project Razlom, comprising of producers Nouwa & Encode, alongside Task Horizon, Akov, Fascad and Aperio present a collection of new talent which debuts on the imprint for their forthcoming compilation LP. Then Need for Mirrors offers a rework of his esteemed track ‘Arp Tune’ in the form of a VIP, whilst Smooth returns to Ram Records once again with his delivery ‘My Life’. And that’s just the beginning; the album is jam packed full of exclusives, one of their biggest collections to date. Junk Mail - 'Fire & Water' ft. Marianna Ray

After debuting on RAM Records through ‘Lock Stock’, Junk Mail continues to establish his new alias through a record which signals a return to the dancefloor. ‘Fire & Water’ ft. Marianna Ray combines the elements which made Mind Vortex, his previous project, so popular with tastemakers alongside a host of BBC Radio 1 plays from both Zane Lowe and Mistajam. And with yet another new track and pseudonym, he demonstrates a commitment to the same levels of success.

Marianna Ray lends her euphoric vocals to the growling bassline of ‘Fire & Water’ as well as its trumpeting subs, giving it the Junk Mail treatment and providing the perfect set opener. Lauded by Andy C throughout his historic New Zealand tour, it’s a long awaited addition to the imperative RAM Records catalogue, where Junk Mail pursues his journey.

Completing their four-track digital EP, Mind Vortex have delivered a smashing VIP mix of dancefloor record Future Fold VIP. Having toured extensively last year, across Europe and beyond, they’ve returned in 2017 with a set of brand new releases to push them even further onto the map.

Throughout festival season, Future Fold was already doing damage, a certified set opener and helping to ignite crowds of thousands across the circuit. Released on Ram 200, a definitive release on the imprint’s discography, it became one of the most recognisable tunes Mind vortex have dropped in recent years. With summer quickly approaching, the VIP treatment is sure to follow suit, becoming another damaging part of the duo’s discography.

A snapping succession of beats and booming bass patterns drag you headfirst into their mix, with their tell-tale driving bassline once again taking hold. With the original being a masterclass in high energy drum & bass, its VIP follows the same vibe. Drawing out on a darker intro, its smashing kicks mimics the original whilst buzzing LFO leads into its drop, adding to a more bass driven hook. Mind Vortex once again showcase why they’re kings of the dancefloor.

DC Breaks vs Prolix 'Infinity' VIP

DC Breaks vs Prolix 'Infinity' VIP

Following the success of their debut LP on Ram Records, as well as an extensive tour which has seen them cross over to just about every major city throughout clubland, DC Breaks are about to unleash a double sided offering which sees two producers take the reins on both ‘Underground’ and ‘Infinity’. And DC Breaks drew inspiration from the drum & bass realms to enable this to happen, adding another face to their collaboration ‘Infinity’ with Prolix through a rework, as well as bringing Tantrum Desire on board for his take on ‘Underground’. Both tracks will refresh your love for DC Breaks, whilst also bringing them into another dimension, demonstrating just how diverse their ‘Different Breed’ LP was in terms of its collaborative records and the tracks featured which have caused so much damage since its release.
First up, tear away producer Tantrum Desire slams into gear with his version of ‘Underground’, where he drives in his signature to give it a more dancefloor edge. Each twist of sonic is given a booming bass shake, drawing out a musicality which switches up around each slamming set of drums. The hooks are more pronounced, giving way to a production standard which is emulated by both Tantrum Desire and his forerunner. Then DC Breaks drops you straight into their rethink of ‘Infinity’, which emulates the undeniably huge vibe prevalent throughout its first detonation alongside Prolix whilst adding another layer of antiquated DC Breaks engineering. Pulsing with the same climatic breakdowns, ‘Infinity’ draws you in for another colossal drop, punching just as hard between every carefully fashioned segment whilst changing the gears and presenting a flipside to its intimidating atmospherics.

Together, they breathe new life into ‘Different Breed’, bringing you into the New Year with a reimagining of records which helped define DC Breaks’ career.

'Every Time' is euphoric peak time D&B at it's finest. Snippets of male vocal loop and whirl while the track builds up into an intense D&B workout that's
soothing on the ears but packed with enough dance-floor-shaking subs to
satisfy big rooms. No doubt this will be at the forefront of many an A-list DJs
CD wallet or Serato playlist this summer!

Meanwhile, for those who've been paying attention, 'Overdose' will feel more
like a familiar Wilkinson style track as soaring atmospherics and bubbling
synth rhythms give way to grizzled rising bass notes. Soaking up everything
that's exciting about drum & bass in 2011, this one is sure to get as much
attention as the A side,

No one presents drum & bass as an eclectic genre quite like Rene LaVice. Whether it's the tell-tale, grinding snare of 'Where My Ladies At', or the soulful vocal lead A-list record 'The Calling', he's already demonstrated a creative aptitude, even before his first output on Ram Records.

But following up on the monumental success of his recent singles, the Canadian producer again offers up two fresh new cuts exposing yet another side of his musical capabilities. However, what can you expect from an artist who's played stages on both ends of the spectrum this summer; whether on the packed out platform of Download Festival, or the infamous Glastonbury.

'Part of Me' is vastly different from the rest of his discography, although still following the same explosive vibe prevalent throughout all his music. Providing a glimpse into the influences which have helped create his identity as an artist, the vocals crossed against a cinematic intro, underpinned with strumming guitar picks, presents the perfect embodiment of Rene's creativity. Featuring renowned artist BullySongs, who helps to build each chorused crescendo, it's a track which certainly sets the benchmark for Rene's forthcoming LP.

On the flipside, 'Untribaled' provides a darker hue. Creeping, ominous and peddled forward on fluctuating beat patterns and growling distortion, that first break plunges you down through a gaping chasm of snapping hi-hats and clunking cow bell. An LFO-lead bassline takes you deeper into the mix, cut at interludes by zapping, lazer-like synth.

Another step closer to his second album release, a precedent has been set. And with anticipation only growing, this final single increases the appetite for Rene's next LP 'Play with Fire'.

Hamilton's 'Soundboy' was one of the stand out tracks featured on Andy C's 'Nightlife 5' compilation, while the VIP version tore apart clubs from London to Lisbon. Meanwhile last year's 'Brainstorm' / 'Echoes' set Hamilton apart as one of the hottest producers the drum & bass scene has to offer. It's no surprise then that this, his latest single for Ram Records, contains an undeniably epic pair of tracks that are filled with all the hallmarks you'd expect from a producer of Hamilton's calibre.

'Rich Kids' builds on that formula as Hamilton displays ever-more musicality as building, enveloping leads and clattering breaks are offset with rib-snapping bassline combinations and grinding end-bar edits. This one is not for the faint hearted and sees Hamilton putting his money where his mouth is to deliver an unquestionably storming track that goes straight for the jugular. This one is an instant rewind track!

Sub Focus - 'Last Jungle' (Camo & Krooked & Mefjus Remix)
___

Global dance music star Sub Focus has released his long-awaited remix album Reworks I.

A ten-track release, Reworks I is made up of remixes from some of the most talented artists in D&B. Kicking things off are three tracks that have recently been released as singles. First is fellow scene titan Wilkinson’s anthemic reimagining of Sub Focus’ early classic ‘Rock It’. The fast-rising Dimension then takes on ‘Timewarp’, an inspired fusion of psy-trance and D&B that’s characterised by pummelling beats and euphoric breakdowns, before seminal D&B head Culture Shock delivers a pulsating remix of the game-changing ‘Airplane’ which accentuates the infectious melody and vocal sample from the original.

Further highlights include new-school D&B duo Pola & Bryson’s stunning melodic take on ‘Follow The Light’, tech trio Data 3’s electro-inspired ‘Deep Space’ rework, Sub Focus’ own 2021 flip of his house classic ‘Could This Be Real’, before things are closed out with Metrik’s atmospheric remix of ‘X-Ray’.

One of the leading names in dance music, Sub Focus remains an influential figure in the D&B scene. Having originally made a name for himself on Ram Records in the late noughties with the iconic tracks getting the remix treatment on this LP, he went on to release multiple chart-topping singles and albums on major labels Mercury, Virgin and EMI, being awarded multiple gold and silver discs by OCC in the process.

He’s since become an international headline act performing at the likes of Glastonbury, EDC, Warehouse Project, and having sold out Brixton Academy and Printworks London as a solo act. More recently he joined forces with fellow D&B big hitter Wilkinson on their acclaimed collaborative album Portals in 2020, as well as remixing Rag’n’Bone Man and Camelphat at the start of the year.
Reworks I sees the defining D&B artist of the 21st century receiving remix treatment from some of his most talented friends and contemporaries.
