Minimal Tech Beats 002 by Bosphorus Underground

Landing 10 years after his first concept album, Wehbba’s drops his debut full-length on Drumcode, featuring collaborations with David Caretta, Thomas Gandey and Brazilian vocalist L-cio.

Following a series of globally adored EPs and inclusions within the imprint’s esteemed A-Sides compilation series, the chart-dominating São Paulo native now reflects upon his life as ‘the artist’, offering an immersive montage of stories that echo a tenacious dedication to his craft. Enlisting the talents of multi-instrumentalist Thomas Gandey, Electroclash pioneer David Carretta and fellow Brazilian L-cio, with his unparalleled flute mastery, Wehbba’s synergetic cuts span the breadth of electronic music’s sonic landscape, as he challenges the notion of genres with seasoned voices.

Birthed from the purest inspiration, the album’s 13 cuts represent a myriad of musical references close to Wehbba’s heart, running parallel with the organic sensibilities of his field recordings. An ode to eternal growth, the LP highlights a cycle of perception and projection, as Wehbba studies the morphing of genres through his own musical filter. Discussing the upcoming album, Wehbba commented

"The musical references on these works trace back to the 90s, when I started listening to electronic music and had no judgement of what was cool - when I was totally free. So they represent, without any filter, what touched me, ranging from braindance to goa trance, from ambient to hard house, and from drum n’ bass through every single mutation of techno and house music."

As a key ambassador for Brazil’s dance music community on a global scale, Wehbba’s long-standing career has seen him affiliate with many of the industry greats on both remix and collaborative projects; testament to his flourishing reputation. Following on from the geometric-led titles of his first two albums, Straight Lines and Sharp Corners alludes to the difficult decisions and blunt shifts he has faced in his career, and their capacity to shape his identity over time. Studying the great Antoni Gaudi, Wehbba’s third LP title takes reference from his perceptive quote "There are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature, therefore buildings must have no straight lines or sharp corners. Anything created by human beings is already in the great book of nature." .

Drumcode is more than a label, it’s a movement. Founded by Adam Beyer, it stands as the highest selling and most influential imprint in techno, has spawned a radio show listened to by millions each week, and a global events brand hosting festivals and events throughout Europe, North and South America. Adam Beyer’s unwavering commitment to quality, combined with a future-focused ethos are the cornerstone of the brand’s success. His definition of techno is open-minded and expansive, while resolutely refusing to compromise on the smallest detail with every aspect of Drumcode’s output.

Lyrics for BB Cooper - Give Me Love
Lift me up
Tear me down
The smallest taste to keep me coming round

Build your walls
Wear your crown
It’s unnatural

You Keep the fire burning
Just to swear you’ll put it out
You got me spinning circles
Round and round

Life me up
Tear me down
It’s unnatural
When I need the most
And I don’t wanna wait
You take it all away

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Let me catch
My breath
My heart about to beat out of my chest

But your love
It’s my drug
So unnatural

Doctor, Doctor, Doctor
Won’t you give me something else
She got me spinning circles
Round and round

Lift me up
Tear me down
So unnatural

When I need the most
And I don’t wanna wait
You take it all away

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Take it all away

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Give me love
Give me love
Give me love

Marco Faraone returns to Drumcode with some of his most inspired work ever, comprising of four tracks crossing the Techno spectrum.

Growing up Marco was surrounded by 90s Italo house and techno, which have all had a part in the current sound he produces today. Never one to stick to any individual style, he can often surprise his fans with a set pumping out peak time beats to down tempo house cuts with catchy vocals.

“With this release, I took some inspiration from listening back to some old Vitalic sounds and giving some extra power to the use of synths in each track. It’s got a festival vibe to it, which is something I wanted to achieve” - Marco

His last Drumcode EP was back in 2016, so this October he makes a welcome return showing his multiskilled productions at their full potential on this mega 4 tracker, opening with the gargantuan ‘Never Forget’. Mutating rhythmic synths hark back to the good ol’ days of BXR and the limitless talent of the Italian Techno scene in the late 90s. Boiling over in the main break this is crowd-pleasing dance music at its finest.

‘Cruiser’ is a bumpy upbeat ride with a strong melodic hook that will have the hands raised and the feet stomping. Title track ‘Lunar Eclipse’ is a dense, at times claustrophobic roller. Menacing to begin with, the addition of the main melodic motifs lifts the mood midway. ‘Take This Trip’ rounds out an incendiary EP. Lighter and more musical that the previous three, it offers a joyful, softer message.

“This is a special release for me, I wanted this to have explosive power yet the perfect balance of melodies and sounds to create a different and unique atmosphere for each track” - Marco .

Sunchase - Kolo (feat. Blu Mar Ten)

Med School are delighted to welcome Sunchase aboard with a debut 6-track EP that fuses melodic electronica and drum & bass with thoughtful percussive patterns, compelling vocals and infectious bass lines.

Downtempo title track “The Truth” opens with beautiful simplicity and a gorgeous vocal softly and unfolds into an atmospheric wave of synth-laden calm. Sunchase combines forces with Electrosoul System to create “Thing”, a warped and futuristic drum & bass excursion proving less is definitely more. “Kolo” enrols the unrivalled talents of Blu Mar Ten, culminating effortlessly into a blend of distilled musicality intertwined with complex and crisp drum patterns.

The infectious and funk-ridden bassline of “Think Of” keeps your ears guessing and feet moving, while “All Of Us” takes the listener on a thoughtful and meandering journey accompanied by Scoda Galina’s ethereal vocal talents. Last but by no means least is “Slowly”, charged with warming sub, inquisitive melodies and echoes of early Synkro releases on Med School circa 2010.

Sunchase first entered the wider drum & bass consciousness back in 2004 with the anthem “Remember Me”. He has subsequently released with many respected labels including the seminal Moving Shadow, Noisia’s Invisible imprint and has appeared on Hospital Records’ “Hospitality 2010” and “Sick Music 3” compilations. His debut album “Static Nitro” picked up Mixmag’s album of the month and received widespread critical acclaim back in 2010, more recently he featured on Lung’s debut album “Wait Less Suspense” on Med School. “The Truth” EP builds on these solid foundations, it’s refreshing and honest, exhibiting Sunchase’s versatility and unrestricted creative liberation.

Riva Starr and Tiger Stripes drop their debut collaborative EP, with the inspired ‘Sound Of The Bettest’.

We first got an inkling of the exciting partnership that may exist between Stefano Miele (Riva Starr) and Mikael Nordgren (Tiger Stripes) last November, when Stefano presented his new Hyperloop project on Truesoul. Not only was it one of 2017’s standout releases for the label, it featured an exciting re-work by Tiger Stripes of EP track ‘Fallen Angel’, giving us a sense of the musical harmony that exists between the pair and taste of what was to come.

With Riva Starr’s background as a jungle/breakbeat DJ and Tiger Stripes long-history in techno, together with the pair’s shared love of dirty house beats, ‘Sound Of The Bettest’ is a wicked melting pot of both their pasts and passions. Hammered by Adam Beyer, the title track is driven by a stunning groovy bass, warehouse MCing and deft breakbeat interludes. ‘Move It’, is a rough and tough accompaniment, characterised by a bad arse jungle bassline and breakbeats, impactful vocals and and stomping techno beats. .

After an excellent performance at Drumcode Festival, Tiger Stripes comes strong with his first EP on the label since 2009.

Since 2015 Tiger Stripes has been an invaluable contributor to Drumcode’s ‘little brother’ Truesoul. As recent as March he released ‘Sound of the Bettest’ in collaboration with Riva Starr, their fresh raggainfluenced take on techno entrenched as a 2018 highlight for the label. Drawing from a wide palette of sounds to craft his groovy, personality-laden take on techno, the Swede has produced arguably his finest work yet with the ‘Insanity’ EP. ‘Baby’ is a melting pot of three decades worth of influences, from James Brown, to Northern Soul and indie pop of Ariel Pink.

The result is a stunning kaleidoscopic techno treat, that brims with rave, garage and funky house spirit. ‘Insane’ is a dynamic feast for the eardrums as trippy arpeggios, a persistent vocal and lush synth leads cascade throughout the seven-minute track. ‘Too Deep (to Bear) follows, an exhilarating slice of late-night techno before the EP concludes with ‘Dying Planet’, mixing up a potent environmental message with tough dancefloor functionalism. .

Drumcode is more than a label, it’s a movement. Founded by Adam Beyer, it stands as the highest selling and most influential imprint in techno, has spawned a radio show listened to by millions each week, and a global events brand hosting festivals and events throughout Europe, North and South America. Bringing a close to their four track ‘Transformation’ EP, Mind Vortex have made a welcome comeback for 2017. Since the beginning, they’ve etched a path for themselves which has woven itself around countless radio plays by tastemakers and Djing slots across the worldwide club circuit. It’s their expertly engineered cuts which have made them so notorious for imposing dancefloor annihilation, with a diverse back catalogue standing as a testament to this.

Alongside ‘Shall We Begin’, your first introduction to the ‘Transformation EP’, next single ‘The Day After’ and slamming rework ‘Future Fold VIP’, ‘Transformation’ ties together a four-track offering which has been anticipated since it was revealed. Time and time again, Mind Vortex have ensured they stay at the pinnacle of their game, with title-track ‘Transformation’ once more raising the bar. Finding a place within the revered home of Ram Records, Mind Vortex present another formidable output.

Coming at you with flickering, sonic beats and a bassline which begins to methodically switch into gear, ‘Transformation’ proves its dancefloor appeal and the incredible manufacturing of their track intros. Punching forward on surging drum patterns and terrifying flicks of twisting LFO, each seismic crash of bass pushes you further into the mix. Mind Vortex create yet another set opener, a promising start to festival season for any drum & bass lover - the track ebbs and flows between an epic crescendo, before gearing up for another climatic breakdown. Mind Vortex demonstrate why they’ve become an integral part of the Ram Records’ roster, pushing harder and harder with every release.

The soundscape available to Mind Vortex is a versatile one. However, the ‘Transformation’ EP ties in four undeniably cutting tracks which pedestal their filthier underbelly. It’s this signature which has made them a staple on line ups across the globe. And they’ll continue to reign supreme on the dancefloors for years to come, with new music still waiting on the horizon.
