I will be,
a forgery.
There's something wrong,
when you think of me.

But tonight we're young,
your skin, your dress
is warm.

Lay you down,
and everything comes off.

I will be,
you're treasury,
keep all your thoughts,
safe inside of me.

Tonight we're here,
the sky, your voice,
is clear.

Lay you down,
and everything comes off.

I will be,
a remedy,
So when I'm gone,
you'll think of me.

Tonight you're old,
your skin, your hair,
is cold.

I'll lay you down,
and everything rubs off

THE PRESENT MOMENT

Some albums really do need to come with a warning. In the case of The High Road by The Present Moment, it would read a little something like: This album may cause withdrawl symptoms from the slightly dizzying effects of strobe lights; the dusty, lung-filling scent produced by smoke machines and the general heart-palpitation-inducing atmosphere of night clubs. It's true, I'm a few years past the socially acceptable age of clubbing, but I very nearly grabbed my last pair of these and hit the town after listening to this.

Hailing from LA, artist Scott Milton has produced an album that, in terms of musical scope, fairly well epitomises that night club scene, the kind where nary a braindead pop hit is heard and music doesn't just add to the ambience, it is the ambience -- and the people are thriving on it.

The primary forces of The High Road draw on some of the more subversive elements of that scene -- namely dark wave, goth and industrial. Opening with the nicely ominous ARRIVAL, an intro glazed with drone, the tone is set for a slightly jaded, occasionally cynical eye to be cast from the observervational point of a dark corner of the room, while those being observed remain completely oblivious as the beat goes on.

Tracks such as No Pieces Fit and the title track itself, The High Road, lean more towards synth numbers with subdued melodies and energetic rhythms, though things do get a little more sinister and occasionally aggresive. From the murky, droning bass in EMILY, to the outright frustration displayed on THE DAMAGE IS LOVED, where the frantic industrial core drives it to the point vehement despair.

The High Road

Electro-infused gothic new-wave industrial-drone. The Present Moment came out of just that. A moment in time where change was influx and it was a chance to venture into new territories musically. Scott Milton, The Present Moment main man, wanted to start giving birth to the musical ideas inside his head out of the band construct. An ever evolving page where he could start this idea and watch it grows out of intention and into a real living musical organism. For now he choose to create and let the process unfold on its own.

THE TIME IS NOW, THE PRESENT MOMENT.

In the heat of LA under his black hood, Scott Milton, member of bands Catalog and Moodorgan, made a mixture of electro pop music sprinkled with dark glow under the name of The Present Moment.
With influences ranging from the electro-glam sound of bands like Visage, Human League, Heaven 17 to the more industrial beats of Nine Inch Nails, COIL, Ministry and Throbbing Gristle with a haze of gothic rock (early Adam & The Ants, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Alien Sex Fiend), The Present Moment is releasing The High Road, his first full length album. Originally released on the US hype label Disaro as a limited edition CDr, The High Road is now out on desire. This very first pressing is out on limited edition CDr, very limited edition real-to-real cassette and unlimited digital downloads.
The High Road contains 10 tracks penned and produced by Scott Milton with the help of his longtime friend Phillip Muench (The Rorschach Garden, Synpscape) on the title track and The Damage Is Loved. It also includes two great covers: Candy-O, originally written by Ric Ocasek for The Cars and Season Of The Witch written by the English psychedelic troubadour Donovan.

CLUBROOT ( http://www.myspace.com/clubroot )

A St. Albans resident, Dan Richmond cut his teeth in the early part of this decade with material bearing a likeness to the futurist ideals of drum and bass producers like Optical, Ed Rush, and Nico. As dubstep began to develop its own musical language, its emerging low end sonic tropes and freedom from rhythmic clutter acted as the catalyst for Clubroot.

Hiatus - Third (Max Cooper Remix) unofficial video

HIATUS ( www.hiatusmusic.net/ )

Cyrus Shahrad began recording as Hiatus in 2003, when an American friend mailed him a copy of Reason and the necessary gadgets to run instruments directly into his computer. The following twelve months saw the independent release of three EPs -- each individual CD burned in iTunes, tagged with marker pen and posted by hand to friends, family and the occasional media flunky. Yet it wasn't until Cyrus spent three months working as a journalist in Tehran that he came across the sound, not to mention many of the samples, that would ultimately inform the Twilight Kingdom LP. Tracks from the album have since have featured on numerous independent movies and snowboard flicks, and work has already begun on a collaborative project with lanky rootsman Smoke Feathers, whose vocals grace two of the tunes on Twilight Kingdom. When he's not in his south London studio -- a stone's throw from the tree in which Blake saw his first angel -- Cyrus writes for various magazines and newspapers on a range of subjects. He suffers from tinnitus, chrondromalacia, carpal tunnel syndrome and acute hypochondria.

MAX COOPER ( www.maxcooper.net/ )

The facts are easy to establish: Max Cooper has more than 50 original releases, tracks and remixes under his belt, from glitchy reinterpretations of big bands like Hot Chip and Au Revoir Simone to straight dancefloor 12"s like his breakthrough "Serie" originals and remixes for names like Agoria, Dominik Eulberg, Extrawelt, Pig and Dan, Kaiserdisco and Sasha.

Paul Kalkbrenner - Since 77 (music video)

PAUL KALKBRENNER ( paulkalkbrenner.net/ )

As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act. The early 90s after the Berlin Wall fell were formative years for Paul, and after spending many long and sleepless nights on the dancefloors of E-Werk, Planet and Whale, the dream was born to make music himself. A job as TV editor got him through the mid-90s and financed his first music gear. By this point Paul had already decided that he did not want to be a typical DJ playing other people's records, but rather to play only his own music, live in a club setting. His first tracks as Paul Kalkbrenner were released in 1999 on Berlin-based BPitch Control (the newly founded label from Ellen Allien) as the Friedrichshain EP, titled after his home district in the city's east. A series of further singles and two full-lengths (Superimpose and Time) followed, plus continuous live performances.
Together with Paul Kalkbrenner, BPitch Control gained a strong momentum. Paul's third album Self (2004) would mark the beginning of a new era. His melodic sound, with its affinity for grand emotional gestures, obeyed the logic of the dancefloor, but Self introduced a narrative aesthetic, serving as a soundtrack to a film that did not exist (at least, not yet). "Gebrünn Gebrünn", released one year later, became a crossover hit.
In early 2006, German director Hannes Stöhr, an avid fan of Self, decided to get in contact with Kalkbrenner. His idea was to produce a film about a Berlin techno musician during the new millennium, and Paul would compose the soundtrack. The two met, traded ideas and experiences, and soon after began working on the screenplay's first draft. In the course of their exchange, Hannes had the realization that Paul should not just contribute the music, but that he would be the perfect choice as the film's star. Without hesitation, Paul accepted the offer. They decided to title the film Berlin Calling.
For the soundtrack's production, Paul and his friend (and Bpitch colleague) Sascha Funke spent half a year in Aix-En-Provence in southern France. One song already had a title: "Sky and Sand" with vocals by brother Fritz Kalkbrenner. Upon Paul's return to Berlin in 2007, the filming began, and the finished work was brought to German theaters in October 2008. Berlin Calling and Paul's debut acting performance received positive reviews, and the film, thanks to its authentic depiction of the Berlin club scene and drug culture, became a cult classic.
The soundtrack and especially the single "Sky and Sand" broke many sales records. That track in particular went gold in Belgium where it remained in the charts' Top Ten for weeks. The 2009 DVD release of the film brought Paul to a new, much larger audience around the world. By the end of the year, Paul separated with BPitch Control after a decade-long relationship to take the next steps of his career alone. In early 2010 Paul completed a twelve-city live concert tour throughout Europe (with over 50,000 tickets sold within just a few weeks), followed by many headlining appearances at summer festivals.
Kalkbrenner uses software-synthesizers, sequencer (Ableton Live) in combination with midi-controllers, hardware-synthesizers and -drummachines for his live shows.
On April 12, 2011, Kalkbrenner announced the album Icke Wieder, scheduled to be released on June 3, 2011 via his own new label Paul Kalkbrenner Musik. About the album, he stated: "There won't be any singing on the album, no music of tomorrow either, it feels generally more like... well, old times".
