DELS ( http://www.myspace.com/imdels )

In an era of homogeneous hip hop, the music of Kieren Dickins -- better known as his on-stage alter ego DELS -- comes as a breath of proverbial fresh air. DELS' signature sound belies a truly eclectic range of musical influences, from his days in a two-step garage band as a teenager, to a long-standing creative partnership with Joe Goddard from electro-pop wonder team Hot Chip. The resulting product is a unique mishmash of squelchy basslines, tinkering keys, syncopated drum patterns and the occasional steel pan, all juxtaposed by DELS' infectiously languid flow.

Having been discovered at the tender age of 16 by the legendary John Peel, DELS continued to make music whilst developing his natural artistic ability as a graphic design & illustration student. Now, DELS' music is fast gaining recognition amongst music heads the world over, earning him a place on a European tour with Hip Hop eccentrics Yo! Majesty, as well as gigs at festivals including Glastonbury, Transmusicales and Big Chill. Having featured heavily on the acclaimed 'Kwesachu' mixtape by production wunderkinds Micachu and Kwes, DELS is currently working on his own debut album, which will be released on the appropriately genre-defying Big Dada/Ninja Tune label in February 2011.

RADIOHEAD (http://radiohead.com/)

are an English alternative rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The band is composed of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, beats), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboard, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass guitar) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion).

Radiohead released their first single, "Creep," in 1992. The song was initially unsuccessful, but it became a worldwide hit several months after the release of their debut album, Pablo Honey (1993). Radiohead's popularity rose in the United Kingdom with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). The band's textured guitar parts and Yorke's falsetto singing were warmly received by critics and fans. Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), propelled them to greater international fame. Featuring an expansive sound and themes of modern alienation, OK Computer has often been acclaimed as a landmark record of the 1990s.

Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001) marked a change in the band's musical style. Radiohead incorporated experimental electronic music, Krautrock, post-punk and jazz influences into their songs, dividing fans and critics, but they remained popular. Hail to the Thief (2003), a mix of guitar-driven rock, electronics and lyrics inspired by headlines, was the band's final album for their major record label, EMI. Radiohead independently released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), originally as a digital download for which each customer could set their own price, later in stores, to critical and chart success. Radiohead have sold approximately 30 million albums as of 2008.

SUNCHASE ( http://www.myspace.com/sunchaseaudio )

Eastern Europe used to conjure images of bleak, snow-bitten landscapes and vodka-drinking Cossacks wrapped up in the remains of a bear. Up until a few years ago, it would never be a place where you instantly assume a thriving drum & bass community exists but like the rest of the world, Eastern Europe has taken a bite and got itself hooked. With many of the UK's big guns regularly flying out to tear up parties all over the Eastern half of the continent over the last couple of years, it was only a matter of time before the scene grew to compete on the world stage of drum & bass.

Hailing from Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, Alexander Pavlenko, aka Sunchase, has started to carve his name into the history of electronic music in the post Soviet Union country. "I first came across electronic music when my friend played me a Kraftwerk cassette - I just thought 'what the hell is this?' but knew I wanted to hear more. My father used to listen to Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Queen and Michael Jackson so I grew up around music but I wanted to experience the more electronic side," Alexander explains.

Now 25, Alexander has pushed his interest in electronic music and been hard at work creating his unique sound for almost eight years, and according to Alexander, he has been developing his skills as he acquires new technology to work with. "I started really basic on the PlayStation game 'Music' but it helped me learn the composition of a tune. This led me to get Acid on my computer, which really helped my understanding of structure. I understand the program inside out and have made over half of my tunes with Acid. I did outgrow it recently so I now spend my time trying to get my head round Cubase," he laughs.

Sunchase has obviously pressed the right buttons because with tracks signed to Revolution, ELP and Moving Shadow amongst others, it seems his production prowess hasn't gone unnoticed. It was 'Remember Me' (2003)that really catapulted him to the ears of the D&B masses, and in particular Latvian singer Yana Kay's haunting vocal caused the likes of Concord Dawn, Fresh, Pendulum and John B to take notice. Equally well received was Sunchase's re-work of Adam Freeland's 'We Want Your Soul', which on certain forums was gaining more praise than the remix from the Virus camp. "I downloaded the acapella and just wanted to chop it up. Normally I build the breakbeats first and everything falls into place after that but the acapella gave me the ideas for the rest of the track. I'm happy with it."

So he should be! With Eastern Europe becoming linked with the techno / drum & bass fusion, Sunchase has done well to establish himself without compromising his sound. There are strains of techno just beneath the surface but Sunchase rolls out uncompromising techy stormers that take no prisoners. "I need to start constructing an album but there are a few things to discuss first. All of my music is dependant on my mood - some days I'll make ambient tracks all day and then other days it will be really dark - the album will be a real mixture of moods," says Alexander with a smile.

With collaborations lined up alongside Counterstrike, Masheen and Cyb Orc, Sunchase has his work cut out over the next few months. Top that with a few remixes here and there plus awareness of his DJ sets gaining momentum and the time will soon be right for Sunchase to cement his position as one of the leaders of the Eastern European scene. "There is still quite a way before D&B becomes really popular in the Ukraine. It doesn't help when there are too many freaks here," he laughs. "All these psy-trance people walking round in their strange clothes - it makes older people look at the youngsters in a different way. They think we are all on drugs."

Telefon Tel Aviv - Lengthening Shadows (unofficial video)

TELEFON TEL AVIV ( http://www.myspace.com/telefontelaviv )

Telefon Tel Aviv is a music collective based in Chicago, IL started by Josh Eustis and the late Charlie Cooper of New Orleans, Louisiana. The two originally met in high school, but did not begin working on music together until after university studies. Since 1999 Josh and Charlie had been working to cultivate their sound, based largely in electronic music, but that also showed flourishes of classical, vintage soul, ambient drone, and noise, among other things. The group continues as a mostly solo project of Josh Eustis after Charlie Cooper's death in January 2009.

In early 2000, the duo collaborated with Danny Lohner, Trent Reznor, and Alan Moulder on several remixes for Nine Inch Nails's then-to-be-released remix EP, Things Falling Apart. Shortly thereafter, Telefon Tel Aviv resumed work on their debut LP, Fahrenheit Fair Enough, for Chicago's Hefty Records, while at the same time completing the original score for the film Newport South. In 2002, the duo paired with L'Altra's Lindsay Anderson to release an EP featuring the single, Sound In A Dark Room. Work on the sophomore LP, Map of What Is Effortless, was completed in summer of 2003. On May 15th of 2007, a retrospective of their remix work for other artists was released on Hefty Records. Work on their third LP had been ongoing since late 2006 and wrapped up with the album Immolate Yourself's release on January 20th, 2009.

Over the past few years, together and separately, the duo completed production work for many other artists, including Marc Hellner/Pulseprogramming, L'Altra, The Album Leaf, Apparat, Belong, The Race, and others. They built a studio in Chicago to work on all of their projects.

Charlie Cooper passed away on Thursday 22nd January 2009, after taking an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. Josh Eustis later posted a confirmation on the band's Myspace page and the Telefon Tel Aviv website still shows an epitaph for Cooper. Josh continues to play Telefon Tel Aviv songs live as a duo with close friend Fredo Nogueira, but has said that the future of the band as regards recording new material remains uncertain.

UNKLE ( unkle.com/ )

UNKLE, a musical outfit founded in 1994 in London, England, United Kingdom. Originally categorized as trip-hop, the group once included producer DJ Shadow and has employed a variety of guest artists and producers.

From the sleeve notes for the latest release End Titles...Stories For Film released in July 2008, the current line-up is stated as James Lavelle and Pablo Clements, also a member of the Psychonauts.

The original line-up was James Lavelle, Tim Goldsworthy (now a member of DFA) and Kudo (Major Force West, Skylab). This incarnation released several EPs and singles, usually involving collaborations with other Mo'Wax affiliated artists.

In 1998, after the departure of Goldsworthy and Kudo, Lavelle enlisted US producer DJ Shadow to help complete UNKLE's debut album, "Psyence Fiction". On this album they collaborated with a variety of guest artists including Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Mike D (Beastie Boys), Badly Drawn Boy and Richard Ashcroft (The Verve). The album contained songs which merged indie-rock with hip hop.

In 2003 UNKLE released "Never, Never, Land". At this time UNKLE consisted of Lavelle and new collaborator Richard File, and the album also featured Ian Brown (The Stone Roses), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream) and others.

A third album entitled "War Stories" was released in July 2007. It features collaborations with Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Ian Astbury (The Cult), Autolux, Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), The Duke Spirit, and Gavin Clark, and is far more strongly rock-influenced than previous releases. The album was preceded by an EP, Nights Temper, of which a limited pressing was released in May 2007.

Lavelle has also released several mix albums and remixes under his own name and under the name Unklesounds (together with Richard File).

UNKLE is known for remixing music from artists such as Explosions in the Sky, Massive Attack, and Oasis.

THE WALTON HOAX ( http://thewaltonhoax.be/ )

The Walton Hoax is a duo from Antwerp, Belgium. A dark mix of UK Garage, Dubstep and 2-Step is molded into a type of bass-heavy sound that's aimed at live-sets as well as casual listening. It follows in the footsteps of futuristic dance producers like Mount Kimbie, Skream, Jamie Woon, James Blake and Burial. The project started in 2010 as a remix collab between the two founding artists. A few months after the project's birth, The Walton Hoax put out a first song: "Chemical Burn", constructed out of melancholy vocals and brooding, live-wire electronics that take the listener for a sizzling ride into the dark. It was supported with a videoclip, that earned them no less than 20.000 views on youtube within the very first month. This song became the title-track for the debut EP. The deep layered sounds on the 3 tracks of this album are a sonic brew of deep bass, dreamy synths, melancholy vocals and shuffled beats. The follow-up tune "Exit strategy" digs even deeper into the dark realms of existence, while the last track "Sublight" has a warmer and lighter vibe. It also features an appearance of American rising star Mimi Page. After some final edits at the Transition Studios in London, the Chemical Burn EP was put out in the summer of 2011 on !mpact Recordings. It's available in digital format and on a limited edition of 12" vinyl.
Peter Vanek (aka Peter Van Ewijk) is a singer/songwriter with many talents. Check out his creative realm at onmpulse.com.
infraBuse (aka Jeroen Vande Voorde) is an electronic music producer. His page can be found on infrabuse.com.

The concept of The Walton Hoax was formed along with the creation of the songs that are bundled in the first EP named "Chemical Burn". These were written, recorded and produced over the course of early 2011, and released in July 2011

OLLIE MACFARLANE ( http://soundcloud.com/olliemacfarlane )
Ollie Macfarlane started producing music when he was about 14, recording tracks and messing around with samples with various bands that never really made it anywhere. Now 20, Ollie has a few years' experience under his belt, producing tracks in his bedroom whilst studying for a degree in Physics at university. Moving to Bristol, UK has affected his sound greatly, with its rich sonic history and exciting nightlife; influences from the House and Drum & Bass scenes can often be heard in his music. Future Garage is an exciting new twist on an old genre which caught Ollie's attention, and he started experimenting with beats not dissimilar from Burial or Synkro, two of his favourite artists. This sound fused with Dubstep and Trance influences to create a sound which he likes to call Bristol Garage.
