June Miller
1: Saus 2: Ups & Downs 3: Bad Brains 4: The Promise Ring
The introductions are over; June Miller are back and there's no apology. They've reappeared having been stooped in solitary confinement; presenting a handful of cuts, only to prove that this was brutally productive and they've been working hard to follow up their last release.
Bare-knuckled and still swinging, this EP sees June Miller entering round three and raising the bar yet another level. The precursor to their forthcoming album, from 'The Promise Ring' to the resounding brass of 'Saus', it certainly sets a precedent.
Rolling out first is a record featuring Mefjus, a production freight-train who's been setting the competition alight in recent months. 'Saus' is no different, with June Miller intertwining a tightly compact composition which smashes your synapses on impact. Rattling through on tracks of unhinged percussion, prepare yourself for a musical excursion which will take you through the darkest depths of drum and bass. But what else could you expect, when the talents of June Miller and Mefjus are so effortlessly combined?
Coming up next, title-track 'Ups & Downs' shows the pair's ability to completely flip an emotive vocal sample onto its back. The way they use this sound component shows undiluted ingenuity, creating a totally different impact with every switch. It begins through a wave of static, with a break that slowly leads you up a drum-paved crescendo. Then it pounds, drops and pulls you up just as quickly, creating dynamics which merge to create an electronic masterpiece.
Then we're introduced to 'Bad Brains'. There's no denying why this track has been used to intro so many sets over the past year. It winds up with an intimidating compactness, before springing you into chaos. Bludgeoning beats roll with each bar set and there's no escape from its driving onslaught. This track is instantly recognisable on first listen, alluding to June Miller's ever-growing profile.
And lastly, we have 'The Promise Ring'. Adding a sexier vibe to its predecessors, the producers have yet again showed there's a hidden depth to their musicality. Snapping, tapping and with a female vocal oozing between carefully layered constructs, it's a nod to their huge reel of ability. This last reaffirms that their debut album is sure to feature some of the most perfectly crafted, versatile music the Ram imprint has to offer.

Magnetude 'Snatch'
Eight years in the making, the path of Magentude was never a smooth one. The Anglo-Russian hybrid spent their formative years sharing music across the vast expanse of cyberspace; following a chance online meeting through their individual projects, it was their love for musically enriched drum & bass which drew them together and it was this passion which saw them collaborate. Time passed, meaning Magnetude became less of an idea and more of a reality as their tracks gained traction across worldwide stages and DJ sets. However, the ingeniously sculpted compositions they piece together meant it was only natural for them to pique interest with one of dance music’s most revered labels, Ram Records. And it was here that their forthcoming single ‘Snatch’ and ‘Signals’ came into being.
One element of Magnetude’s success is their ability to integrate multi-genre soundscapes across drum & bass. ‘Snatch’ is the epitomic example, pulling out vast, orchestral instrumentals and throbbing bass notes to draw you deep inside its climatic breakdown. As the record transcends into a more dancefloor-lead drop, it ducks and dives between rocketing pulses of LFO and a hook which is undeniably catchy. Switching midway and demonstrating that every inch of their music channels a constant thought process, ‘Snatch’ may be your first foreword into Magnetude’s sound but it will certainly carve a lasting impact.
‘Signals’ still shakes with the same relentless drive as its flipside but also gives you a glimpse into Magnetude’s boundary-breaking sound design. Pulling robotic, eerily warped vocals through the mix alongside its floating synths, the introduction of its weighty drum patterns adds a divisive undercurrent. ‘Signals’ still keeps its focus around the anarchist club vibes seen throughout Magnetude’s production but it also opens you up to their range and diversity.
They’re a duo who concentrates on developing a signature which not only oozes individuality but also centralises around the contemporary progress of drum & bass. This is why they’ve become such an exciting prospect within the twenty-five year strong Ram Records roster.

The Ram Records 2017 Drum & Bass Annual doesn’t just stand as a testament to the imprint. After working over two decades within the genre, standing at its forefront and delivering piece after piece of ground-breaking dance music, they’re immortalising their twenty fifth anniversary with the biggest drum & bass compilation to be released since the label’s inception. Featuring a massive 60 tracks, with every name who’s trail-blazed this year’s must have releases, prepare to be thrown into the world of drum & bass like never before.
With cuts from head honcho Andy C, as well as Symmetry’s underground boss Break, neuro pioneers Noisia and break through artists such as Urbandawn, Voltage and many more, this LP caters to a range of palettes. A huge spectrum of sound is covered by the album, giving a glimpse into every corner of the genre’s entirety and delivering the finest cuts seen over the past twelve months. Whether it’s The Prototypes’ ‘Rocket Guns Blazing’, which detonated festival stages globally, or Wilkson’s dancefloor radio hit ‘Sweet Lies’, no stone goes unturned.
You’re also introduced to a wide range of remixes; producer’s who’ve already established their sound rework some of dance music’s most well-known anthems. Dimension’s twist on Deadmau5’s ‘Strobe’ was a heavily sought after record, with cyberspace counting down the days until its release. Nestling itself in the track listing alongside Shy FX’s summertime remix of ‘Stay with Me’, as well as Etherwood’s beautifully revised version of Gorgon City & Mnek’s chart topper ‘Ready for Your Love’, you’re given a glimpse into the industry drum & bass reign supreme over.
Brand new sonic artwork such as Bad Company UK’s ‘Nomad’ also makes the cut, epitomising the signings which Ram Records have embarked on this year. The roster is now packed with the likes of Bad Company UK, a quartet who’ve set a precedent and released a number of genre-defining records. Camo & Krooked also bring their Ram offering ‘If I Could’, following the recent announcement that they’ll be releasing their next LP on Ram.
Sixty tracks for you to indulge in and sixty tracks to remind yourself of how strong drum & bass still is in 2017. A must have for not only drum & bass fans, but music listeners alike, it’s a reflection of what both Ram has done for the genre, as well as the milestones drum & bass has hit over the last twelve months.

An infamously quick-fire dj, as well as one of the most hotly tipped producers to date, Frankee is returning yet again with a single to further solidify his position.
Whether it's from a set played on the notorious Ibiza waterfront, or amongst a packed out, dimly lit stage in super club Fabric, you'll instantly recognise these refined cuts premiered over the last six months. Detonating a hard lined crowd at Drum & Bass Arena's Easter weekend, Power and Downtown are of two totally different flavours, yet still pull raw energy and emotion from dancefloors globally.
Featuring the vocal talents of Simon Franks, 'Downtown' demonstrates an ability to tap into a hugely diverse range of capacities. Fading between carefully textured breaks, as well as a cleverly distorted bass, it spans a hugely intricate composition. Fluctuating note patterns perfectly underpin slowly elevated synths; cutting open and laying bear the producer's depth. Working his more emotive soundscape 'Downtown' epitomises Frankee's versatility and his multidimensional approach to music making.
On the flipside, a much darker standard is set. Winding up before clanking into a maze of snapping hi-hats, reverberating bass and barrages of driving drum loops 'Power' demonstrates the harder style of his production, as seen in previous tracks like 'Snarl' and 'Excalibur'. Brooding, gritty and a perfect 4am grinder, the delivery of this next single presents two opposing tracks that help to exemplify Frankee's vast discography.

Black Sun Empire ft. Nymfo, State of Mind
‘Surge Engine / Ripsaw’
Released – 24th August
RAMM330
Exploring Ram’s back catalogue, there’s a host of artists offering their own take on its sound, whilst also creating their imperative place within drum & bass. Ram hasn’t just featured their innovative roster of artists, but they’ve also hosted guest appearances from equally influential names. Blackout figureheads Black Sun Empire are the next producers to take this opportunity, alongside Nymfo and State of Mind, presenting a double-sided single which pays homage to their formidable titles within the neurofunk subset. The release is technically streamlined, with an edge that tears through any commercial constraints.
Black Sun Empire join Dutch neighbour Nymfo for ‘Surge Engine’, merging together their undeniable dancefloor appeal and Nymfo’s dark, brooding undertones. It presents a more understated reverse, beginning with snapping, ominous instrumentals and clanking snares. The metallic undertow and its blaring flutes drag you into a surging mix, alluding to its track title whilst its impact becomes heavier between every layer. With each sixteen bars, more technicality floods the composition and you’re left to fully immerse yourself in the levels that Black Sun Empire and Nymfo can achieve as a conjoined force.
Then Black Sun Empire and State of Mind detonate ‘Ripsaw’ without hesitation. They bring two colossal production standards together, charging forward with dainty, yet somehow intimidating pads and a gradual climb into the unknown. As the record builds segment upon segment, you suddenly become aware of a hook beneath the surface which begins to set the scene. You’re then thrown through its chaotic descent, whilst crackling LFOs help keep its driving momentum, engineering an unstoppable record which has already over run the club circuit.
‘Surge Engine’ and ‘Ripsaw’ deliver another side of Ram’s sound and its one which is equally as important. Artists like Black Sun Empire, State of Mind and Nymfo have all helped build Ram as the powerhouse it’s known for, alongside its equally decorated roster.

The waiting is finally over… We're about to unleash your soundtrack for the next Music week in Miami and it's packed full of exclusives. With no less than 28 brand new cuts accompanying you onto one of the world's hottests beaches, prepare for the smooth riding riddims of Ram Records to envelop the US and beyond.
From label stalwarts Delta Heavy, to new signees Teddy Killerz and championed guests Gerra & Stone, there's a musical taste to suit every palette. Whether it's from a renowned roster artist or a relative newcomer, this compilation bursting with heaps of exclusives is the only way to launch you headfirst into the innovation drum & bass is renowned for.
Carefully finessing this album, the Ram imprint is about to drum & bass for a transatlantic journey. It's a showcase of what the genre can offer… electric vibes which pulses through its veins and cherished memories of a tempo which pulls you into the morning's early hours.
But with the Miami conference pedestalling every major genre which has made electronic music so popular, there would be a void if Ram didn't step up. And as one of the most withstanding labels from the last two decades, they've delivered with immense style. You're provided with a host of smooth basslines and hotly tantalising vocals to take you from pool-party to clubs at some of the most renowned districts.
Audio is first to deliver, crashing in at full speed and leaving no survivors with the tear out anthem which is 'Combust'. Then taking you into a web of technicality and meticulous composition is Calyx & Teebee's 'Wipe Out'. There are also a huge selection of Vips to firmly solidify why it's important to revisit tunes which are still to this day so highly sought after; leading the way is Loadstar's 'Under Pressure' Vip, which set a stunning precedent in 2014.
So, now it's time take the legacy of Hornchurch to Miami and lay down the same roots which are still prevalent throughout the UK today. And adding that to Miami's reputation, it's a match which is set to make history.

Drawing you ever-deeper into their forthcoming LP '1x1', Calyx & TeeBee's next offering presents not only a landmark release, but also their unbridled integrity. The anticipation around this second album is only growing, having scored three Beatport numbers ones with their latest singles. On top of playing sold out shows at Brixton Academy, as well as festivals across the Atlantic and singles and producing remixes on major labels, it's clear to see how they've met these benchmarks.
'Cloud 9' sees Calyx back on vocals, adding a soulful depth which creates a narrative behind the music. Carefully drawn out lyrics create a cinematic edge, intimate and adding an 80's new wave flare which is seldom seen within the genre. Layers gradually build underneath the track's more humanistic elements, with a distorted bassline revving up and peddling the record forward. Ducking and diving between twisted beats, you're launched through a segment of glitchy sonic, before stockier subs underpin the composition. A testament to an unbreakable production standards, it only alludes to another studio album set to make history.
The name 'Panic Attack' in itself is foreboding; implicating an explosive flipside, it delivers with an almighty kick and leaves you reeling. Snapping and kicking between hi-hats and low-mids, 'Panic Attack' is explosively aggressive from its roll out. Winding up on elongated note patterns and quaking percussion, the erratic break pushes you through a soundscape of madness. However, this is one methodically built… Keeping you hooked from start to finish with pounding drum loops. An incredible verification of their technical knowledge, this isn't just the groundwork for a second studio album. It epitomises the solid, reverberating history the duo hold between them.

The duo was unstoppable, going from strength to strength, culminating in 2001's legendary "Body Rock." The track was the first ever triplet tune with a swing beat, and its innovative production transcended the underground and entered the mainstream, reaching Number 28 in the UK pop charts - an exceptional and rare distinction, particularly for an acoustic drum and bass track with no sign of a catchy vocal.

James Pountney -- aka Culture Shock was then given the chance to make his own EP, and 'the third stage' was released in summer 2007. It included the suave 'Rework', produced in partnership with the Brookes Brothers, and a brilliant electro-breaks track 'Asteroids' that fits well with James' open approach to music: 'I've been into drum and bass for a long, long time -- he recently told Knowlede magazine - That is great but it's all about bringing in influences from elsewhere. I am really into all electronic music and I listen to a lot of techno and electro'.

For twenty five years, Ram Records’ ground breaking roster have stood at drum & basses forefront. Time and time again, they’ve delivered some of the most definitive releases which have helped to shape the genre’s roots, becoming a prized part of its antiquity and huge back catalogue of releases. But alongside their primary artists, they’ve also welcomed guests to bring their refined production to Ram’s ever-growing discography. Their next addition is from Smooth, an artist whose spent years refining his craft, from playing instruments in his formative years to turning his hand at metal, hardcore and finally drum & bass, where he landed himself on its most revered imprints. He continues this ascent with the ‘Resurrection EP’ on Ram, featuring four fresh cuts to add to an already stellar succession of releases.
First from the new batch of records is ‘Trajectory’, a steppy, snapping whirlpool of clattering bass rhythms and fluctuating note patterns. It pulls you into Smooth’s dreamy soundscape, whilst still channelling a bassline which pulsates steadily underneath each flurry of beats. Up next comes ‘Disco’, with a more cascading, jazzy appeal, one which gradually builds into uplifting pads and clattering drums, helping to flesh-out the composition. ‘Disco’ points to Smooth’s streamlined musicality, which features a huge repertoire of sound.
‘Device’ follows with a cinematic intro, which begins to grow steadily on a quick succession of sonic stabs and heavyweight drums. Amongst old-school breaks and rattling percussion sitting underneath the mix, the track is tribal yet crunches with grinding LFO. It’s fierce in its delivery and channels more contemporary production standards. ‘My Feeling’ finishes the EP on a completely different vibe, drawing out keyed arpeggios and elevating synths. Smooth flexes his creativity one more time before the Resurrection’s close, stringing together shimmery vocals and an emphatic climax. Alongside its predecessors, ‘My Feeling’ gives the perfect end to a stellar release. One welcomed by Ram’s decorated history.

Needing little introduction, and having scored a Beatport number one with latest single 'Shatterdome', this fresh cut from Audio yet again reinstates his dominance. Slick and standing with fortress-like tightness, these two sonic slabs of bass bear down on you aggressively. Then again, what can you expect, from one of the most resounding names within the genre; even from his very first output?
'Make it Happen' is bulking and rolls forward like a freight train. Snapping between breaks and bass that bulges with power, it's a muscular number which brings another meaning to 'dancefloor anthem'. Broken up by interjecting sample, frequently pounding loops of distortion and warbling beat patterns pull you deeper and deeper into the mix. Pausing before ascending yet again into all-out chaos, Audio proves his intimidating production standards are upheld with every release.
Instantly recognisable from the vocal snippet, 'Napalm' promises to explode on impact. Detonating crowds at festivals this summer, from Prague's Let it Roll to stages across Europe, it's a chunky, clunking record which has already caused devastation across the continent. Distorted and with a warbling, low frequency, prepare to be taken by the synapses into drum & bass' murkiest waters.
Yet again, Audio demonstrates his unbridled capabilities. Gritting his teeth and once again proving a darker edge to the Ram imprint, this presents one more step towards an Audio LP…

The story of Bensley's rise to fame within the drum & bass community has become infamous. One of the scene's most prolific to date, the emerging Ram stalwart was pushed into the agenda's forefront without any prior music being available to stream online. Having been signed to the revered imprint based on a few mysterious demos, the LP that followed demonstrated the thought process behind label-head Andy C's decision.
And next single 'Tip Toe' only goes on to solidify Bensley's position. One set component from the last eighteen months that has created nearly as much hype as his ground breaking first single 'Fandango', it again hones in on the artist's signature production standards. Hollowed drums and building note arpeggios bring you forward on top of a reverberating bassline; quickly cut then propelled forward on pounding subs, clacking percussion filters between carefully composed loops.
Hailed by radio tastemakers Beats1's Zane Lowe and 1xtra's Mistajam as one to watch, this next single adds another milestone to his journey. Whether it was on the dancefloor across his European tour last Autumn/Winter, or through personal headphones, Bensley is beginning to dominate playlists globally. 'Tip Toe' solidifies why.

The original LP has already done untold carnage through the club circuit, so to bring on board more high ranking artists for yet another ‘Different Breed’ project is a huge feat. And having already dropped reworks from A.M.C & Turno, Flowidus and Tantrum Desire, their list of collaborators is continuing to grow.
This time they draw for Ram Records roster members Loadstar and heavyweight engineer InsideInfo, who both extract the original vibes and mould them into their own individualistic styles. Whilst Loadstar implements their more melodic, dancefloor infused breakdowns for ‘Remember’, InsideInfo crashes forward with a darker, bass-ridden undertow through his take on ‘Gambino’. Yet again DC Breaks relies on their fierce counterparts, keeping the duo at the centre of the game through an expert A&R craftsmanship. This can be seen not only through their own releases, but also the artists they’ve chosen to breathe a new life into their damaging cuts.

Culture Shock
1: Raindrops 2: Troglodyte VIP
Pre-Order: http://po.st/CultureShockRaindropsiT
Culture Shock has remained a withstanding name inside the realms of drum & bass. After a succession of pounding solo hits and an array of remixes which garner just as much power, it's no surprise James Poutney is still a key player within the genre half a decade on.
And this next release from Culture Shock needs little introduction. Featuring the greatly sought after 'Troglodyte VIP', showcased on Andy C's proclaimed Nightlife 6 series, there's also a fresh new offering which boasts of his well-pedestalled credentials.
'Raindrops' acts as a perfect starter, reintroducing you to the bass-rooted artwork which Culture Shock manifests with absolute precision. It certainly makes a statement on impact, with warming synths that know how to take a track into different breadths of sound. Cool, refreshing yet stimulating with each electronic pulse, it's named aptly as you're unable to detach yourself from its strident melody. Effortlessly sophisticated, he establishes a hook ensuring 'Raindrops' doesn't lack the heavier elements which underpins his composition. A signpost detailing that Culture Shock is back, this record firmly reasserts the producer as a bassline trend-setter.
Rolling out next is the reimagining of Troglodyte, one of the most rocketing dnb anthems to step out of the last five years. You already know the skull-cracking impact of its predecessor, but now it's time for a different sequence of peddled madness. With diced up vocal snippets continuing to play an important role in its hard-lined conveyer belt of production, there's now a fluctuation of note patterns opening up a different perspective. However, it takes the same path, leading to a drop which continues to ricochet after it's first fired and bares it's teeth just as aggressively.
Culture Shock nods to past and present with this next release, revamping a contemporary classic, whilst demonstrating longevity on new tracks like 'Raindrops'. Continuing to make new ground, this end of year release signals big things to come… It's definitely a move to watch closely!
