In a time when darkness roamed and creativity and joy were forbidden, there was a man with only one dream: Releasing the world from all its misery.
He built an instrument, assembled in an enormous work of art.
To protect his creation, he fabricated a mythical key...
That would only be found by the purest of hearts...

A new chapter will be written,
The Key to Happiness

“An old man likes to return in memory to the days of his youth like a stranger who
longs to go back to his own country. He delights to tell stories of the past like a poet who takes pleasure in reciting his best poem. He lives spiritually in the past because the present passes swiftly, and the future seems to him an approach to the oblivion of the grave. An hour full of old memories passed like the shadows of the trees over the grass”
― Kahlil Gibran

We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in Eternity.

40 Songs re-recorded by us. Re-imagined by you. #U2SOS40

Songs Of Surrender. Out Now: http://u2.lnk.to/SOS

Alexandra Thurmond is a director and creative director originally from Long Beach, California.

“I’ve always been obsessed with music and movies, and love working at the intersection of the two. Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to work that explores relationships, our connection to ourselves and others, and to the world around us.”

U2 is one of those bands that has always felt iconic, from the first time I heard their music as a kid, to watching their videos on MTV. Beyond the music, I always admired their activism and outspoken support of the causes they believed in.

When I started thinking about this project, I wanted to make something that continued that spirit, and as I started looking through references, I came across a photo I’d taken of Steve.

If you live on the East Side, chances are you’ve seen Steve Sharp. Every Friday evening, he stands at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset with a double-sided sign that says ‘Spread Love,’ ‘Celebrate Peace’. I’d driven by him many times over the years, and it would always make my day to see him out there. His energy is infectious.

When I got in touch about the project, I learned that he’d been doing this for over 20 years. What started as a protest against the invasion of Iraq, with hundreds of other supporters, has become a personal vigil for Steve: “I’m no longer protesting anything, I’m promoting peace in my own way.’ I am so honored that he wanted to be a part of this video, and grateful that U2 has given us the chance to share his story, and promote peace, from the streets of LA.”

Huge thank you to our crew and to my friends with cute cars who came along for the ride.
