Behind The Track:
I started writing this song at the beginning of 2019 during a few big changes in my life. After living in college in Newcastle for two years, I moved in with my partner at the time and we also welcomed a new puppy into our lives. Everything felt so new and fresh, and life just felt so easy to love. At the time it felt like everything started to align and my previous decisions or relationships that didn’t work out started to make sense why they ended the way they did. With this song, I wanted that feeling and genuinely capture the early stages of a relationship where everything feels so carefree, pure and full of joy. After fiddling with the song for a while, I realised that it would be nice with some female vocals and harmonies intertwined. I actually knew Sophia, also known as Newcastle/Sydney-based indie artist BERLYN. We both actually knew each other previously as teenagers growing up in Tamworth and we both had the common interest of music during the last years of our schooling. Pretty sure we both actually met properly for the first time in 2014 when she snuck into a Battle of The Bands concert titled ‘Bandwagon’ a local Tamworth high school to watch my Indie-Rock band at the time ‘Junk of the Void’ play live alongside a bunch of other local teenage bands at the time After school, we both moved onto the same college on campus at the university in Newcastle and both ironically for fun played together as a college band in another Battle of the Bands competition against our rival colleges. After that we remained good friends and both started establishing our own independent music careers as artists through slowly playing live shows on the local Newcastle music scene. In late 2019 after writing the first parts of this song, I sent a very poor quality iphone video recording of myself playing the song acoustically to Sophia and also known as This was my first co-writing experience and Soph helped me rewrite some of the verse lyrics and came up with the Bridge section. After some back and forth demoing in our home studios, we decided to get the song professionally recorded in Byron Bay by Folk artist and producer Garrett Kato in June 2020.
