A testament to the growth of Adam Beyer’s scene-leading label, Drumcode annual A-Sides Vol.8 is the brand’s biggest yet.
The 25-track strong compilation features standout cuts Beyer has received over the last 12 months, but been unable to find room for in Drumcode’s regular release schedule, such is the volume and high standard of music that’s submitted.
The highlight-rich compilation includes Jamie Jones & Darius Syrossian’s buzzy Drumcode debut ‘Eyes of the Night’, Nicole Moudaber’s first DC release in 5 years with the mesmerizing ‘This Is Us’, Will Clarke’s bass-drenched re-work of Adam Beyer & Bart Skils ‘Your Mind’ and Joey Beltram’s first Drumcode release in 11 years with the retro-tinged ‘Can You Feel It’.
The beloved Alan Fitzpatrick returns to the fold with the searing ‘Heiße Rakete’, alongside label mainstays Layton Giordani, who drops the stirring chord-driven ‘Chrome’ and Wehbba with ‘Mantra’, combining techno classicism with future-focused groove.
There’s a troupe of debutants donning the Drumcode jersey for the first time, including BEC, Shelley Johannson, Anthony Castaldo, Avision, Zimmz, Woo York, SAMA (in a terrific collaboration with Secret Cinema) and Ilija Djokovic, who delivers a shimmering highlight with ‘Aura’, a particular favourite of Beyer’s over the last year. Raxon also debuts on the label after a couple of quality additions to the Truesoul back catalogue.
Exciting young guns Weska and Juliet Fox bring heat to the compilation, while Veerus and Timmo follow up strong DC releases with a repeat dose. Elsewhere faithful contributors Ramon Tapia, Jay Lumen, Luca Agnelli, Marco Bailey and Mark Reeve craft powerful dancefloor weapons. .

A rare treat for Drumcode faithful A-Sides Vol.10 is set to drop in December, the second edition of the beloved series to come in 2020.
Fuelled by the extra time and space to be creative during lockdown, Drumcode’s collective of artists have stepped up. Across 17 contributions, the producers have gone deeper into their sonic repertoire, crafting powerful, yet reflective works that capture the range of the label’s sound.
Jay Lumen leads the way with a rousing riff-driven weapon, ‘Galactic Rainbow’, while Ramon Tapia brings us the muscular gem ‘Drum Control’, mixing up ruffneck techno with a barrage of synapse-tickling synths in the second half. Both rousing highlights of the compilation.
Victor Ruiz, Drumcode’s most prolific contributor in 2020, dishes up ‘Love Story’, led by a huge vocal lead. Zimmz also returns with ‘Tension’, which deftly combines deep squelchy grooves with a silky synth interlude. Thomas Hoffknecht follows up his debut on Vol.9 with ‘Escape’, keeping listeners on their toes with dynamic, choppy shifts throughout. Veerus joins with another stirring addition ‘I Know’, reinforcing why Beyer rates him so highly.
Elsewhere a string of debutants feature buzzy newcomer Lilly Palmer gives us ‘Amnesie’, a brilliantly pummelling and eerie cut; Alex Lentini & Stomp Boxx serve up ‘Expanders’ mixing up drone effects, trippy vocals and an unsettling melody line; and Patrik Berg’s ‘Activated’ is full-bodied techno that drops down into funky rhythms.
Long-time DC family member Bart Skils brings his A-game with the thrilling no-nonsense ‘Solid State’ that hits like a steam train. Likewise, Alan Fitzpatrick who brings a momentous slab of techno energy with ‘Rochus’, while Thomas Schumacher, now feeling like a regular on the imprint, crafts another dark techno opus, this time in collaboration with CAITLIN.
There’s even a special appearance by the chief Adam Beyer, who makes a welcome return with the progressive-tinged ‘Changes’, driven by organic tones and spacey atmospherics. The track stands as his first original contribution to A-Sides since 2017. .

The first part of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP lands in transcendent style.
Since their debut on Drumcode in 2016 with ‘Mexico’, Pig&Dan have firmly established themselves as one of the label’s most vital acts. They’ve dropped four memorable EPs, including a standout four-tracker with Adam Beyer ‘Capsule’, all of which reinforced their uncompromising production standards.
‘Tunnel Vision I’ is this accomplished talent in full bloom and the first of a two-part EP series that will hit across March and April, 2020. Rather than release an album and potentially explore less dancefloor-orientated tangents, the pair opted to present eight tracks the represent their high-impact, euphoric take on techno. The cuts have done damage at events such as Warehouse Project, Drumcode Halloween and Dockyard Festival.
‘Slave to the Rhythm’ hits like a hypnotic steam train, led by crisp drumlines before a massive synth lead comes into view complemented by a muscular bassline. Trippy synths and a propulsive groove give ‘Tunnel Vision’ its bite. ‘Fracture’ marches forward with plenty of low-end technoid swagger, before a synapse-tickling riff delivers a peak-time hit. ‘Traces’ brings proceedings back to earth, creating an evocative technoscape fit for welcoming the dawn. .

Julian Jeweil - Boreal, released on 25.03.2022. by Drumcode - DC257
Julian Jeweil returns to Drumcode for his first EP in two years with the inspired six-tracker 'Boreal'.
The Frenchman has been a vital member of the extended Drumcode family since 2017 when he debuted with the fantastic 'Rolling' EP. Since then, highlights have included playing main stage at Drumcode Festival and dropping the critically acclaimed 'Transmissions' album in 2019.
His 'Boreal' EP marks his fifth outing on the imprint. The title track is a truly special record, striking the sweet spot between euphoria and melancholy, as airy pads and stirring waves of melody stamp it with a timeless feel. 'Time' is a propulsive weapon built around a steely industrial backbone and is a necessary tool for every set. 'Reverse' is a low-slung beast that builds up intergalactic energy throughout. 'Cosmos' is a peak-time belter and sees Jeweil do what he does best; deliver functional, powerful techno with a trippy extra-terrestrial edge. 'System' is a jacking slice of heat, led by shuffling beats and a persistent vox designed primed for sweaty dancefloor moments. The generous EP rounds out with 'Minuit', a polished driving cut with a sleek melodic core that reinforces the Frenchman's breadth in the studio.

‘Hypnosis’ was one of Drumcode’s most vital under-the-radar releases of 2019. Its creator, Veerus, returns to the mothership for another top-shelf offering.
The Italian’s career is a brilliant slow burner, releasing EPs sparingly over the course of his 14-year career. There’s a narrative quality too each track too, the artist reveling in a drama-laden call-and-response dynamic. All three cuts from his latest ‘System’ EP are made for big moments. The title track was created with Amsterdam’s holy rave cauldron the Gashouder in mind, and was completed by Veerus just a few days before ADE last year. Balancing on a knife’s edge between tension and euphoria, the track’s twisted synth lines sent an energy surge through the iconic venue. ‘Year’ is a deadly one-two combo of synapse-searing synths and sharp drums as jagged waves of sound throb with panoramic effect. It was a captivating highlight of Beyer’s set at Amnesia in Milan in February, the final session before the lockdown. ‘Pyramid’ was debuted at Beyer’s Cercle performance last September, sound tracking a blissful post-sunset moment at the Théâtre antique de Lugdunum in Lyon. .

DC175 comes courtesy of Alias, a new project comprising of Harvey & Ryan McKay, who are two acts who have previously released solo material on the label. Harvey McKay’s last appearance was in late 2016 when he dropped ‘The Mad Drummer’ on A-Sides Vol. 4 whereas Ryan McKay’s last outing was in 2015 when he appeared on A-Sides Vol.3 under the name Skiver. This is the first collaborative project between the Scottish duo under their new moniker Alias.
The EP opens with ‘Pentatonic’; A tough sounding track that has been designed for the forward-thinkers. ‘The Truth’ follows up sharply, with vintage piano stabs and a vocal that gives the track abounding energy. The on-point percussion leads you on a trip of pure rapture. The release closes with the apocalyptic ‘Dream Taker’, which is teeming with sinister vocal action, hostile synth work and a sublime way to sign off.

Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.
Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label.
2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week.
The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends.
The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year.
Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’.
With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world. .

Perennial pushers of the techno envelope, Dense & Pika are renowned for their standout studio output that seems to constantly conjure up a particularly unique take on their distinct sound, D&P have rather outdone themselves in 2017. Kicking off the year with a selection of back catalogue remixes from the likes of Danny Daze, Scuba, Slam and Yotam Avni that illustrated the high esteem in which D&P are held by their peers right across the spectrum; From heritage acts to current headliners and cutting edge talent, the duo have gone on to drop bomb after bomb after bomb. Their universally lauded remix of Tiga’s ‘Louder Than A Bomb’ was the first of a run of chart topping cuts; With a remix of ME & her’s ‘Wild Rage’ on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax imprint and their own ‘Casino’ single both challenging the norm of what techno sounds like in the here and now.
Cooked up with a more melodic vibe and fusing elements of house and techno, Dense & Pika’s latest outing on Drumcode offers something different compared to their previous work. There is still that vintage feel to each of the tracks with analogue sounds and arrangements born and developed from experimental studio jams. Indeed, ‘Suki’ heavily utilizes the distinct harmonic tones of the Dave Smith Prophet 8 keyboard. While ‘Little Sun’ - A staple of D&P performances over the last three months - delivers a more classic Drumcode sound. ‘Lanky’ closes out the release with an infectious slab of wonderfully wonked-out raw funk. .

Nick Curly makes a welcome return to the Truesoul fold with a strong two-tracker brimming with old skool spirit.
The Mannheim native has built a career on creating timeless club-ready records; taking inspiration from two decades of electronic music, while still being resolutely focused on bringing something fresh to the dancefloor. Over the years he’s contributed three quality EPs to the Truesoul catalogue, highlighted by the deep grooving ‘Go’ – a standout track from 2016.
His return to the imprint with ‘Ezeiza’ sees him mining influences from yesteryear to create two classy cuts that fit into techno and house sets alike. Curly said he wanted to get back to the groove and spirit that was often felt in older tracks, taking inspiration from his early releases on Cocoon and Sci+Tec. Achieving his aim, ‘Who Made Who’ is driven by analogue rhythms, old skool vox drops and a vintage melody line that runs throughout that glistens with old skool vigour. The title track accompanies it, a deeper head down affair that pairs a sleek synth line with crisp drum work to craft a lush end-of-night tool. .

E-Dancer - Re:generate, Released 2021-10-01, Drumcode, DC250
Drumcode marks its 250th release with a historic collaboration with Kevin Saunderson, as tracks from his legendary E-Dancer moniker receive the remix treatment from a diverse selection of artists from Detroit, Europe and beyond.
From Inner City to E-Dancer, Kevin Saunderson's music has been a presence in Adam Beyer's life since his teenage years. A visit to Berlin's Hard Wax in 1993 sealed it. Beyer, a drummer, strongly identified with the music's rhythms and returned to Stockholm with a swag of records from Motor City artists – Jeff Mills, Underground Resistance and of course Saunderson, under a multitude of aliases.
Detroit techno has been imbued in his musical DNA ever since. Indeed, the 'Reese bassline', with its famous 'hoover' sound named after Saunderson's moniker of the same name has featured in various iterations in countless Drumcode tracks right up to this day.
After Saunderson and Beyer initially discussed a collaboration in 2019, the seeds of something a little different were sewn last year when Wehbba delivered a standout edit of E-Dancer 'Velocity Funk'. Soon after, 'Re:Generate' was born featuring artists spanning generations, scenes and continents; a transatlantic stamp of where techno stands in 2021.
For Adam Beyer and everyone at Drumcode this release is also about honouring and celebrating the Black visionaries – Saunderson being one of many – who the scene owes so much to, while simultaneously educating younger fans about the origins of techno.

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fueled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others.
As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting 22 unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months.
Outstanding all-round talent ANNA kicks off the compilation with ‘Portable Paradise’, a pulsating cut that sets the tone for the top-shelf club cuts to follow. Also entering the debut field with their first ever Drumcode dalliances are B.Traits and Charlotte de Witte. The esteemed Canadian selector offers up ‘I Feel The Music’, a euphonic track that’s been sought after since spring, and the Belgian ballista unlocks a thick-edged club bomb in ‘Remember.’
Leaders of Drumcode’s new brigade, exciting Brazilian Wehbba and British techno alchemist Boxia set out to impress. Wehbba’s straight-talking ‘Just’ hits with an immediate sense of urgency before neck-snap claps strike with force, and Boxia’s ‘Final Call’ elicits physical engagement with mellifluous vocals and soaring pads.
Continuously looking to bolster the profiles of emerging talent, Berlin-based producers Weska and Juliet Fox are brought into the fold with equally engaging razor-sharp tracks that are primed to do lasting damage.
Other notable highlights include an exhilarating workout from Reset Robot - the most released artist on Beyer’s imprint Truesoul – as he lands on Drumcode for the first time. And tastemaker’s favourite Jel Ford makes a welcome return as he ushers in techno rhythms with bustling breaks in ‘Nightshade.’
Elsewhere, support from label mainstays comes in from Bart Skils, who offers a work of consummate skill in ‘West Of The Moon.’ Alan Fitzpatrick, who’s been heavily featured across the A-Side series, joins forces with Scuba as he operates as his uncompromising alias SCB. The result is a propulsive floor-gripper that testifies to their masterful deftness as co-producers. Formidable duos Dense & Pika and Pig&Dan also contribute with powerful compositions.

Carlo Lio & DJ Boris - City Nights, released on 04.03.2022. by Truesoul - TRUE12144
First time on Adam Beyer's younger imprint for friends and frequent collaborators, Toronto's Carlo Lio and NYC kingpin DJ Boris collaborate with a driving techno two-tracker.
Carlo's merciless mesmeric grooves and Boris' drum-punishing sound produce the kind of infectious techno you can get lost in until before you know it it's Monday morning. Meeting in Miami during Covid, they produced this two-tracker, which joins a solid back catalogue of releases for both including the likes of Mindshake, Edible and Transmit Recordings. They're just about to kick off a B2B tour of NYC, DC, Miami and many more.
Title track 'City Nights' while still drum-driven, with a rattling rhythm and a hi-hat monsoon, has a sultry vibe, the industrial elements and spoken vocals conjuring visions of the big city alive at night. 'Break it Down' has bongos, castanets, frantic hi-hats, the works, ganging up on a boom, boom beat, relentless and hypnotic, while a robotic vocal makes a mantra of the title. Dark fun.
