Bono reads an extract from his book - ‘SURRENDER: 40 Songs, One Story’ - in an animation which illustrates an extract from the chapter titled ‘Out of Control’, in which he tells the story of starting to write U2’s first single on 10th May 1978 – his 18th birthday, exactly 44 years ago today.

In ‘SURRENDER’ – out on 1st November – Bono writes about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with—from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was 14, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his 20 years of activism dedicated to the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty.

The title ‘SURRENDER: 40 Songs, One Story’ refers to the book’s 40 chapters, which are each named after a U2 song. Bono has also created 40 original drawings for ‘SURRENDER’ which will appear throughout the book, and also feature in this animated video.

All That You Can’t Leave Behind is the tenth studio album from U2. Andrew Norman Wilson is an artist and director based between Europe and America. Festival screenings include Sundance, the New York Film Festival, and Rotterdam. His work is in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Centre Pompidou.

"Burj Al Babas is a ghost town of over 700 identical baroque-style chateaus in Mudurnu, Turkey that was supposed to be a luxury development for wealthy foreigners. However, the project went bankrupt in 2019 and remains incomplete and uninhabited to this day. Viewing pictures from afar, I was struck by how Burj al Babas looked like virtual space due to the repetition of the architecture. So I hired my favorite freestyle drone pilot (@mrsteelefpv) to shoot what looks like a flythrough animation."

"Bono has described U2’s 1991 single “The Fly” as "a crank call from Hell... but [the caller] likes it there." This contradictory experience of enjoying hell resonated with our experience at Burj Al Babas, and I think that comes through in the video."

A.R. Rahman joined U2 onstage at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai last night to perform their new track ‘Ahimsa’ in celebration of the band’s first ever visit to India. The performance also features the debut appearance of Rahman’s daughters - Khatija Rahman and Raheema Rahman, along with singer-songwriter Rianjali Bhowmick - all of whom also feature on the track.
