The 100th part of Program’s discography is about to drop and with it you’re reminded of a huge part of the imprint’s history, spanning across a colossal number of releases and representing an important section of the drum & bass underground. Split into three parts, Program 100 will realign you with the sounds which gained the international attention which Ram’s sister label now enjoys, having broken away from its counterpart whilst creating its own place within the dance music market. For its first package, you’re given remixes, exclusives and VIPs as part of the Sampler. And these include tracks which have been heralded as this year’s most sought after dubs, by the likes of trend setting players such as UKF and Red Bull.
 
Marking the first part of its track listing, the growling Skantia rework of LoKo’s ‘Bassline Secret’ will be a welcome introduction for many drum & bass listeners. Ram Records stalwarts Calyx & Teebee then have their take on Legion & Logam’s ‘House of Cards’, before Eastcolors' ‘Toys’ gets the VIP treatment. Fascad makes his Program debut with ‘Bull’ and Eazy’s ‘Lushen’ oozes with the technical Program vibe. Rounding off the sampler is Glitch City & Night Shift’s ‘Spider’s Web’ and they make their first appearance on Program yet fit perfectly within its ranks, delivering a murkier undertow from their usual offerings. In just six tracks, the label’s team have painstakingly selected music which defines its journey, from its beginnings to now. So once again, it’s time to get with the Program, although this time its for its most expansive sequence to date.

James Pountney aka Culture Shock has gone from the passing of an unmarked demo, to arguably the drum & bass scene’s most ground-breaking producer. Since his first release on Moving Shadow in 2004, Culture Shock has consistently pushed boundaries with his sonic artwork, creating a diverse discography which has become symbolic within one of the UK’s most withstanding genres.

The release of the SEQUENCE represents his most accomplished work to date, with the bundle including all six tracks from the SEQUENCE series released over the past 18 months. These include the Radio 1 Hottest Record ‘There For You’, club mainstays ‘Get Physical’ & ‘Take Control’, and ‘Bunker’, one of the most successful tracks of the last five years.

With his most recent single ‘Renaissance’ still being championed by Annie Mac, the bundle also features another electric Culture Shock original in ‘Neighbourhood’, as well as a jungle rework of ‘There For You’ courtesy of man of the moment Breakage, and an explosive techno remix of ‘Bunker’ from WEHBBA.

To coincide with the release, Culture Shock hosted SEQUENCE to a sold out room 1 of the iconic fabric nightclub in London on May 24th, ahead of a hectic Summer touring schedule featuring EDC Las Vegas, Creamfields, Nass, Beats For Love and Eastern Electrics.

Anyone who has followed the DJ sets of Adam Beyer or Dutch ally Bart Skils, would be familiar with the stirring vocal and thundering impact of ‘Your Mind’. While the track begun as a tool, the reactions when tested out were so momentous they decided to turn it into a full track. Together they teamed up to add more percussion, snares and a rolling acid line to complete its transformation. The result? Frenchman POPOF continues his decorated career with a debut release on Truesoul.

POPOF is an artist whose career has been defined by twists and turns. From delicately beautiful minimal productions like ‘Serenity’ on his own Form Music imprint, to peak-time house cuts on Hot Creations and his remixes of The Chemical Brothers and Depeche Mode, his music is as unpredictable as it is impressive.

Reinforcing the breadth of his output, he lands on Truesoul with a gritty three-track work, after impressing Adam Beyer with recent his ‘Confusion’ EP on MOOD Records, which featured on the Truesoul head’s celebrated Amnesia Terrace set at Cocoon Ibiza last year. ‘Vaporizer’ kicks off the EP in energetic fashion, driven by an electro-laced bassline that builds towards a thrilling crescendo. The seventh volume of Drumcode’s annual A-Sides compilation hits with no less than 10 debuts for the label, with Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, B.Traits and Scuba’s SCB project, among the collection of topline artists to release their maiden productions on the imprint.

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fueled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others.

As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting 22 unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months.

Outstanding all-round talent ANNA kicks off the compilation with ‘Portable Paradise’, a pulsating cut that sets the tone for the top-shelf club cuts to follow. Also entering the debut field with their first ever Drumcode dalliances are B.Traits and Charlotte de Witte. The esteemed Canadian selector offers up ‘I Feel The Music’, a euphonic track that’s been sought after since spring, and the Belgian ballista unlocks a thick-edged club bomb in ‘Remember.’

Leaders of Drumcode’s new brigade, exciting Brazilian Wehbba and British techno alchemist Boxia set out to impress. Wehbba’s straight-talking ‘Just’ hits with an immediate sense of urgency before neck-snap claps strike with force, and Boxia’s ‘Final Call’ elicits physical engagement with mellifluous vocals and soaring pads.

Continuously looking to bolster the profiles of emerging talent, Berlin-based producers Weska and Juliet Fox are brought into the fold with equally engaging razor-sharp tracks that are primed to do lasting damage.

Other notable highlights include an exhilarating workout from Reset Robot - the most released artist on Beyer’s imprint Truesoul – as he lands on Drumcode for the first time. And tastemaker’s favourite Jel Ford makes a welcome return as he ushers in techno rhythms with bustling breaks in ‘Nightshade.’

Elsewhere, support from label mainstays comes in from Bart Skils, who offers a work of consummate skill in ‘West Of The Moon.’ Alan Fitzpatrick, who’s been heavily featured across the A-Side series, joins forces with Scuba as he operates as his uncompromising alias SCB. The result is a propulsive floor-gripper that testifies to their masterful deftness as co-producers. Formidable duos Dense & Pika and Pig&Dan also contribute with powerful compositions.
