Layton Giordani crafts his most accomplished work to date with ‘New Generation’, his second album on Drumcode.

Since 2017’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Where It Begins’, the New Yorker has entrenched himself as one of the label’s most vital artists and leader of techno’s new school brigade. At just 27, he’s collaborated with Adam Beyer and Green Velvet on multiple occasions, linked with the legendary Danny Tenaglia for the now-classic ‘Live Again’ and played everywhere from Awakenings, Melt! Festival and Warehouse Project. He’s also lived the Transatlantic life more than most, splitting his time between the Big Apple and Amsterdam, absorbing influences from across the electronic spectrum.

It’s these experiences that inform ‘New Generation’, a masterclass of techno futurism and glistening example of Giordani’s ever-developing talents as a producer. Opening with the shimmering soundscapes of ‘Shinjuku’, a beatless two-and-a-half-minute mood setter, the album swings between timeless multi-faceted dancefloor weapons, and more lilting, ambient techno cuts rips for the golden hour.

Already a favourite of the Drumcode faithful, the album’s title track hits with a swarm of synapsesearing synths that saw it go down a treat at Awakenings Festival, Tomorrowland and Gashouder in the second half of 2019. ‘System Majority’ balances atmosphere and propulsive rhythms on a knife’s edge and featured in Beyer’s DCR 515 radio show. Giordani reunites with the legendary Green Velvet for ‘Life Lesson’, a pulsating roller, which notably features the young New Yorker’s hypnotic vocals on loop. Teaming with friend and fellow East Coaster Avision, ‘Power’ is punchy techno at its finest, driven by energetic stabs and a stirring vocal from Chicago journeyman Cevin Fisher. After playing b2b a string of times, Layton links with good friend Bart Skils for a maiden collaborative track. Driven by a strong melodic lead, ‘Midnight Magic’ typified the moment when the duo played it at Drumcode’s Awakenings event during ADE last year. ‘Feel A Vibe’ is an album highlight centered around plump bass, reverb-heavy sonics, distorted bleeps and a spoken word vocal, which begs for a peak-time rinse.

Elsewhere Giordani demonstrates his breadth with cuts such as ‘Nirvana X’, a lush breakbeat-laden cut; the laser-kissed ‘Translation Lost’, where his musicality is in full view and the progressive-tinged
‘Memory Fragment’, which reinforces the expansive Drumcode sound palette. The beautiful ‘Human Error’ closes out the work, as muffled horns, delicate keys and sparse bed of percussion unify for a momentous finale.

“This album is a summary of my life experiences up until this moment. Traveling around the world, living abroad, looking into the future and bringing atmosphere and textures from different places into my music. The evolution of music is a systematic cycle that never ends. It’s a composition of all matters experienced and visualized up until this very moment. From futuristic realms and ambiences, to city soundscapes within our reach; ‘New Generation’ is the future distilled into album form.” - Layton Giordani .

Wehbba (feat. David Carretta) — Sharpshooter — Drumcode — DC220

Landing 10 years after his first concept album, Wehbba’s drops his debut full-length on Drumcode, featuring collaborations with David Caretta, Thomas Gandey and Brazilian vocalist L-cio.

Following a series of globally adored EPs and inclusions within the imprint’s esteemed A-Sides compilation series, the chart-dominating São Paulo native now reflects upon his life as ‘the artist’, offering an immersive montage of stories that echo a tenacious dedication to his craft. Enlisting the talents of multi-instrumentalist Thomas Gandey, Electroclash pioneer David Carretta and fellow Brazilian L-cio, with his unparalleled flute mastery, Wehbba’s synergetic cuts span the breadth of electronic music’s sonic landscape, as he challenges the notion of genres with seasoned voices.

Birthed from the purest inspiration, the album’s 13 cuts represent a myriad of musical references close to Wehbba’s heart, running parallel with the organic sensibilities of his field recordings. An ode to eternal growth, the LP highlights a cycle of perception and projection, as Wehbba studies the morphing of genres through his own musical filter. Discussing the upcoming album, Wehbba commented

"The musical references on these works trace back to the 90s, when I started listening to electronic music and had no judgement of what was cool - when I was totally free. So they represent, without any filter, what touched me, ranging from braindance to goa trance, from ambient to hard house, and from drum n’ bass through every single mutation of techno and house music."

As a key ambassador for Brazil’s dance music community on a global scale, Wehbba’s long-standing career has seen him affiliate with many of the industry greats on both remix and collaborative projects; testament to his flourishing reputation. Following on from the geometric-led titles of his first two albums, Straight Lines and Sharp Corners alludes to the difficult decisions and blunt shifts he has faced in his career, and their capacity to shape his identity over time. Studying the great Antoni Gaudi, Wehbba’s third LP title takes reference from his perceptive quote "There are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature, therefore buildings must have no straight lines or sharp corners. Anything created by human beings is already in the great book of nature." .

A maiden collaboration for Siege and Fer BR results in a debut EP on Truesoul.

The Belgian Siege and Spaniard Fer BR, have long admired one another’s work, all the while sharing a desire to release music on Truesoul. Siege reworked Green Velvet’s ‘Bigger Than Prince’ which garnered support from Adam Beyer, while Fer BR’s rolling techno productions on labels such as Mindshake and Minus put him on the Swede’s radar. Their contribution to Drumcode’s little brother imprint felt fated.

The title track, ‘Say My Name’, is a bumping ghetto house bomb, heavy on attitude. ‘Something’ combines boundless percussive energy with a hazy vocal break and begs to be played on an Ibiza terrace this summer. ‘Or What’ is a pearl of a track, characterised by stomping low-slung beats, bass stabs and a building, otherworldly melody line. A perfect slice of chunk to drop at an afterhours session. ‘Put It Down’ concludes the four-tracker in rugged style, popping with array of industrial effects and tripped-out sonics. .

Exciting rising talent Oscar L makes his debut on Truesoul.

The Spanish artist has been whiling his craft for over a decade, with recent standout releases on Suara and Elevate. He’s inducted into the pantheon of Truesoul artists with a plump three-tracker titled ‘Konfusion’, the cuts featuring in recent episodes of Drumcode Live and marking Oscar L as one to watch for fans.

The title track ‘Konfusion’ is a punchy peak-time cut, packed full of energy that’s driven by a tension-inducing build up, while still maintaining the essential groove-ridden appeal that Truesoul is renowned for. A track that encapsulated the delicious chugging swing of Adam Beyer’s recent Cavo Paradiso gig in Mykonos. The package ensures its versatility with ‘Together’; With a cheeky ‘90s house vocal, stunning subterranean drums and rousing atmospheric break that proved a stunning highlight when Beyer dropped it at Loveland Festival in August. Concluding with ‘Synesthesia’, the track is marked by fierce drum work and a rippling dubby bassline, a rich sensory stimulation for the eardrums, staying true to its name. .

Part of the new brigade of artists making their mark on the label, Veerus lands his fifth release in two years on Drumcode.

With a pair of EPs and numerous contributions to the coveted A-Sides compilation under his belt since his debut in 2018, Veerus has established himself as a talented go-to producer for Adam Beyer; from his stirring cut ‘Hypnosis’ that highlighted the Drumcode founder’s Cercle performance, to the killer ‘System’ that provided an early 2020 moment for the label. His consistent vein of form will result in a coveted spot at Drumcode Festival Malta 2021 in September.

‘Recovery’ continues the Italian’s talent for crafting powerful melody-led techno projections. The title track is an ace. What begins as a smoky atmospheric cut is quickly elevated to beast status as intergalactic robot stabs shatter the mist, while an acid-underbelly adds to the mood. ‘Dysfunction’ brims with a distinct 90s synth aesthetic, propelled by a crisp and classy bottom end. .

Andrea Oliva is the latest blue-chip artist to make their debut on Truesoul in 2019.

The respected Swiss DJ/producer has long commanded the juncture between house and techno, releasing on-point cuts on Cadenza, Objektivity and more recently Cuttin Headz and Play It, Say It!. He’s likewise put his stamp on Ibiza as a resident of one of the island’s premiere underground weeklies, ANTS. It was at the Ushuaia party’s opening in May 2018 that Adam Beyer recorded Drumcode Radio episode #411, making Oliva’s debut on Truesoul a natural follow-on.

The ‘Repeater’ EP is a muscular four-track package, the original built around persistent synth stabs made for sweat box moments. Label favourite Oscar L amplifies the intensity, adding an exhilarating melodic underbelly and fiery snares pushing the vibe towards peak time. ‘Jam Table’ throbs with a rave-injected pulse as scattergun key patterns add a deliciously head-scrambling element to the mix. Drumcode regular Marco Faraone dons a Truesoul cap to contribute a deeper, Detroit-inspired work to round out the pack. .

Truesoul’s most capped contributor, Reset Robot, delivers another supreme EP.

Dave Robertson (aka Reset Robot) is a treasured label asset, his association with Adam Beyer stretching back a decade. Over the years he’s gifted the imprint 10 EPs and an album ‘Let Your Soul Outside’ in 2014, his talent and crisp sound signature shining through.

For his twelfth Truesoul offering, ‘Cosmic String’, he lays down a trio of winners. ‘Opto’ is industrial and trippy in equal measures, managing to avoid any possible pigeon-hole, while crying out to be utilised in a variety of musical scenarios. The title track is true to its name; organic bass tones and a soft melodic core spiral into otherworldly realms thanks to a tweaked-out string section that amplifies the track’s impact. ‘Romeo’ is a low-end modular exploration, which still embodies an innate musicality. .

Roberto Capuano returns with his first Drumcode EP since 2015.

The Neapolitan has long occupied a special place in the heart of Adam Beyer. His cut ‘Never Stop’ is one of the finest Truesoul releases in recent years and he came up trumps with Drumcode’s 150th release in 2015 with ‘The Wilford’ EP, featuring the dub techno groover ‘Obsessed’. His last outing on Drumcode was the fantastic ‘Limitless’, a collaboration with Luigi Madonna that featured on A-Sides Vol.6 in 2017.

‘The Walker EP’ is Capuano’s most full-bodied work on Drumcode to date. The title track is a stealth combination of punishing drums and dystopian arpeggios building up a dark brew of energy. ‘Segment’ is a flamboyant follower, all six minutes of spine-tingling synth stabs and chopped up vocal effects perfect for peak time moments. ‘On Your Skin’ is no less captivating, a huge Beyer favourite throughout the summer months, its exhilarating combination of rousing vocal, swirling synths and catchy riff make it a slam dunk. The slick ‘Sirio’ concludes the quadruplet of cuts, as stomping grooves rub shoulders with multi-layered melody lines for a satisfying finish. .

Drumcode is more than a label, it’s a movement. Founded by Adam Beyer, it stands as the highest selling and most influential imprint in techno, has spawned a radio show listened to by millions each week, and a global events brand hosting festivals and events throughout Europe, North and South America. After a brilliant contribution to Truesoul’s V/A in 2017, OC & Verde land their debut EP on the imprint.

It’s been a little under two years since the Mancunian duo dropped ‘Naaki’ on Truesoul’s VA compilation, giving label followers the first taste of their classy sound. The duo’s imitable knack for producing groove-driven dancefloor heat make them a dream fit for Adam Beyer’s daytime sets and when the label boss warmed up Drumcode Festival playing B2B with Ida Engberg on day 2, it was OC & Verde’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’ that highlighted the early shift.

The perfect primer, ‘Cloak’ builds anticipation in spades thanks to its slick mix of exotic chords, tribal chants and incessant bass melody that runs throughout. By contrast, ‘Dagger’ is intended as the stirring closer to a party, marked by swirling synth effects, pads and a dramatic melody line. .
