If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less. Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants. There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer. With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’. Belgians Joyhauser featured at last year’s Drumcode Festival paving the way for ‘Fierceness’, a beautiful melody-drenched cut befitting their DC cap. Anfisa Letyago is another first timer and shows why she’s one of the scene’s most highly touted new artists with the brooding beast ‘Are You In’. A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes. Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous. .

Drumcode is more than a label, it’s a movement. Founded by Adam Beyer, it stands as the highest selling and most influential imprint in techno, has spawned a radio show listened to by millions each week, and a global events brand hosting festivals and events throughout Europe, North and South America. Adam Beyer’s unwavering commitment to quality, combined with a future-focused ethos are the cornerstone of the brand’s success. His definition of techno is open-minded and expansive, while resolutely refusing to compromise on the smallest detail with every aspect of Drumcode’s output.

Reset Robot - I Wish You'd Never EP, Release date 2021-04-09, Truesoul, TRUE12138
"Reset Robot returns with another exquisite Truesoul offering, led by the timeless vocal composition 'I Wish You'd Never'.

Digging deeper into his sonic repertoire during lockdown, the producer (aka Dave Roberston) crafts a thoughtful EP brimming with shimmering ambient tones and textures.

'I Wish You'd Never' reinforces his superior production skills, led by the mammoth title track. A strong lead vocal rubs shoulders with lustrous synth swirls, lilting pads and crisp percussion, before a brooding bassline comes into focus and hits with a deliciously menacing punch. 'Time Loop' is a piercing acid trance cut that begs to be rinsed. 'Fluid' originally begun as ambient electronica work, but evolved into a tougher composition through the course of the studio session ""out of curiosity I added some drums and a more aggressive bass synth and it came together,"" Robertson says of the grandiose, pad-laden work. A classy dub of 'I Wish You'd Never' rounds out the package."

“With Transmission I wanted to produce an album which would represent me a hundred percent, without limiting myself or setting boundaries. It was important for me to make an LP where every single track could be used in a mix as well as listened to at home. The album's concept was simple Transmission tells a story; my techno story" Julian Jeweil

France’s globetrotting techno DJ/producer Julian Jeweil set to release debut artist album Transmission via Adam Beyer’s illustrious Drumcode Records on 7 January 2019.

Over the past decade, Julian Jeweil has risen to become one of one of electronic music’s most respected artists and synonymous with cutting-edge melodic techno. Throughout his career, the Marseille-based artist has garnered numerous accolades and achievements including releasing on esteemed imprints such as Cocoon, M-nus and Plus 8, being Beatport’s #1 top selling techno artist (2015), remixing the likes of Moby, Deadmau5, Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann and Pan-Pot and performing at some of the world’s best clubs/events such as Fabric (UK), Womb (JP), D-Edge (BR), Drumcode OFF Week 2018 (ES), Drumcode Festival (NL), BPM Festival (PT) and Resistance (MX).

With the accumulation of all of this success and experience, the time has now come for the talented Frenchman to continue his burgeoning relationship with Drumcode by following on from his well-received debut ‘Rolling’ EP (2017) and ‘Space’ EP (2017) with his much-awaited debut long-player, Transmission – comprising of 11 stellar tracks inspired by Jeweil’s ambition to produce an album for the dancefloor that would fully represent him without setting any limitations or boundaries.

The alluring space-themed LP commences with the exquisite synth-laden beatless composition ‘Intro’ which is closely followed by one of the album’s darker standout moments, the stomping peak-time title track ‘Transmission’. Elsewhere, there’s further dancefloor weaponry such as the pulsating synth-driven roller ‘Mars’, the edgy groove-based ‘Hyoid’ and the trippy acid-tinged ‘Turbulence’.

Other highlights include, ‘Planet X’ which showcases Jeweil’s mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient downbeat interlude when placed between the pounding Berghain-esque workouts such as ‘Internal’ and ‘Futura’. The album continues into its final triptych with ‘Astral’ and ‘Dorsal, 2 powerful bass heavy masterpieces, concluding with the aptly named emotional soundscape ‘Final’ to round off a superb debut long-player that’s well worth the wait. .

A rare treat for Drumcode faithful A-Sides Vol.10 is set to drop in December, the second edition of the beloved series to come in 2020.

Fuelled by the extra time and space to be creative during lockdown, Drumcode’s collective of artists have stepped up. Across 17 contributions, the producers have gone deeper into their sonic repertoire, crafting powerful, yet reflective works that capture the range of the label’s sound.

Jay Lumen leads the way with a rousing riff-driven weapon, ‘Galactic Rainbow’, while Ramon Tapia brings us the muscular gem ‘Drum Control’, mixing up ruffneck techno with a barrage of synapse-tickling synths in the second half. Both rousing highlights of the compilation.

Victor Ruiz, Drumcode’s most prolific contributor in 2020, dishes up ‘Love Story’, led by a huge vocal lead. Zimmz also returns with ‘Tension’, which deftly combines deep squelchy grooves with a silky synth interlude. Thomas Hoffknecht follows up his debut on Vol.9 with ‘Escape’, keeping listeners on their toes with dynamic, choppy shifts throughout. Veerus joins with another stirring addition ‘I Know’, reinforcing why Beyer rates him so highly.

Elsewhere a string of debutants feature buzzy newcomer Lilly Palmer gives us ‘Amnesie’, a brilliantly pummelling and eerie cut; Alex Lentini & Stomp Boxx serve up ‘Expanders’ mixing up drone effects, trippy vocals and an unsettling melody line; and Patrik Berg’s ‘Activated’ is full-bodied techno that drops down into funky rhythms.

Long-time DC family member Bart Skils brings his A-game with the thrilling no-nonsense ‘Solid State’ that hits like a steam train. Likewise, Alan Fitzpatrick who brings a momentous slab of techno energy with ‘Rochus’, while Thomas Schumacher, now feeling like a regular on the imprint, crafts another dark techno opus, this time in collaboration with CAITLIN.

There’s even a special appearance by the chief Adam Beyer, who makes a welcome return with the progressive-tinged ‘Changes’, driven by organic tones and spacey atmospherics. The track stands as his first original contribution to A-Sides since 2017. .

Julian Jeweil - Boreal, released on 25.03.2022. by Drumcode - DC257
Julian Jeweil returns to Drumcode for his first EP in two years with the inspired six-tracker 'Boreal'.
The Frenchman has been a vital member of the extended Drumcode family since 2017 when he debuted with the fantastic 'Rolling' EP. Since then, highlights have included playing main stage at Drumcode Festival and dropping the critically acclaimed 'Transmissions' album in 2019.

His 'Boreal' EP marks his fifth outing on the imprint. The title track is a truly special record, striking the sweet spot between euphoria and melancholy, as airy pads and stirring waves of melody stamp it with a timeless feel. 'Time' is a propulsive weapon built around a steely industrial backbone and is a necessary tool for every set. 'Reverse' is a low-slung beast that builds up intergalactic energy throughout. 'Cosmos' is a peak-time belter and sees Jeweil do what he does best; deliver functional, powerful techno with a trippy extra-terrestrial edge. 'System' is a jacking slice of heat, led by shuffling beats and a persistent vox designed primed for sweaty dancefloor moments. The generous EP rounds out with 'Minuit', a polished driving cut with a sleek melodic core that reinforces the Frenchman's breadth in the studio.

The first part of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP lands in transcendent style.

Since their debut on Drumcode in 2016 with ‘Mexico’, Pig&Dan have firmly established themselves as one of the label’s most vital acts. They’ve dropped four memorable EPs, including a standout four-tracker with Adam Beyer ‘Capsule’, all of which reinforced their uncompromising production standards.

‘Tunnel Vision I’ is this accomplished talent in full bloom and the first of a two-part EP series that will hit across March and April, 2020. Rather than release an album and potentially explore less dancefloor-orientated tangents, the pair opted to present eight tracks the represent their high-impact, euphoric take on techno. The cuts have done damage at events such as Warehouse Project, Drumcode Halloween and Dockyard Festival.

Drumcode heavyweights Pig&Dan and Victor Ruiz link for their maiden collaborative EP.

‘Consciousness’ is driven by a catch low-end riff that’s powerful and funky in equal measures and is a particular favourite of Adam Beyer’s, highlighting the boss’ Drumcode Indoors II and Tomorrowland’s United Through Music stream. ‘Music Takes You’ is a delicious low-end roller driven by a punchy synth workout that drops down into a captivating vocal break made for big moments. ‘Paradise Lost’ is a widescreen melodic gem, comprised of a laser-kissed synth hook, crisp percussion and a clever low-end chord progression, giving it a classy timeless appeal. .

E-Dancer - Re:generate, Released 2021-10-01, Drumcode, DC250

Drumcode marks its 250th release with a historic collaboration with Kevin Saunderson, as tracks from his legendary E-Dancer moniker receive the remix treatment from a diverse selection of artists from Detroit, Europe and beyond.

From Inner City to E-Dancer, Kevin Saunderson's music has been a presence in Adam Beyer's life since his teenage years. A visit to Berlin's Hard Wax in 1993 sealed it. Beyer, a drummer, strongly identified with the music's rhythms and returned to Stockholm with a swag of records from Motor City artists – Jeff Mills, Underground Resistance and of course Saunderson, under a multitude of aliases.

Detroit techno has been imbued in his musical DNA ever since. Indeed, the 'Reese bassline', with its famous 'hoover' sound named after Saunderson's moniker of the same name has featured in various iterations in countless Drumcode tracks right up to this day.

After Saunderson and Beyer initially discussed a collaboration in 2019, the seeds of something a little different were sewn last year when Wehbba delivered a standout edit of E-Dancer 'Velocity Funk'. Soon after, 'Re:Generate' was born featuring artists spanning generations, scenes and continents; a transatlantic stamp of where techno stands in 2021.

For Adam Beyer and everyone at Drumcode this release is also about honouring and celebrating the Black visionaries – Saunderson being one of many – who the scene owes so much to, while simultaneously educating younger fans about the origins of techno.

Pig&Dan — Rinse Out The Sound — Drumcode — DC222

A blistering buddy to the first instalment of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP will land in April.

Not one to rest on their laurels, Pig&Dan have come out firing in 2020. One of the techno genre’s most prolific artists, their 17 year has seen a wealth and consistency of output unmatched by most in the industry. This is exemplified by the ‘Tunnel Vision’ series launched on Drumcode this year.

Set for release just one week after its predecessor, part 2 continues in powerful, peak-time mode. ‘Sirenism’ is a tour de force, driven by a pulsating lead that pops with acidic undertones. ‘Rinse Out The Sound’ is an intoxicating blend of warbled effects, warm synth layers and crisp drum work. ‘Perception’ is marked by an exuberant top line riff and steely percussive layers and makes for a colourful addition to any set. ‘Wasted’ is muscular techno at its finest, finished with a glistening layer of melody. No surprise the collection went down a treat at Warehouse Project, Drumcode Halloween and Dockyard Festival, among others. The duo are in irresistible form. .

Raxon lands his first richly-deserved Drumcode EP.

There’s something distinctive about the Egyptian-born artist’s productions that provoke a special response. His debut outing on Drumcode, ‘Dream Space’ soundtracked our favourite takeaway moment from Awakenings Festival in 2019, as Adam Beyer and his three daughters danced along to their mum Ida Engberg’s set, wearing smiles the size of watermelons. More recently, when Beyer played ‘Connection’ during the ‘Drumcode Indoors II’ stream from his Ibiza home, once more, his daughters sprang into dance mode, their fists striking the sky. Raxon’s music just touches you, it’s unavoidable.

After a pair of contributions to Truesoul and ‘Dream Space’ appearing on A-Sides Vol.8 last year, his maiden Drumcode EP is perfectly timed. ‘Connection’ is catchy intergalactic techno, driven by thick wedges of bass and an irresistible lead hook. ‘Orbit’ initially takes a crunchier and more percussive tone, before rich melodic chords sprout from the darkness to add colour to the mix. .

His Outhouse parties which run regularly in his hometown of Letterkenny, Ireland, have made an impression, hosting the likes of Alan Fitzpatrick, Mella Dee, Ejeca, Kettama and Huxley all in the last 12 months. While on the release front he’s landed strong EPs on Dirtybird, DFTD and Hot Creations, where his track ‘Along Came Polly’ was anointed Essential New Tune on Radio 1 and spent five weeks at no.1 in Beatport’s overall charts.

He pulls no punches on his maiden outing for Truesoul. ’50 First Raves’ is a fizzing, technicoloured trip as urgent synth stabs and bouncy bottom end juxtapose with uplifting melodic interludes crafted for peak-time impact. ‘Posers Ray Gun’, is a fleet-footed mongrel bleeding together influences that span chunky breakbeats, hoovers and exhilarating warehouse-ready rave with rough-edged house music dynamics. ‘Ready To Fly’ is Rebūke’s take on a traditional tribal house record, but with his energetic rave-infused twist.

Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous. .

Alan Fitzpatrick & Joel Mull - We Don't Know Anything Yet feat. FRANGIE, Released 2021-04-12, Drumcode, DC241

Drumcode treasures Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull link for their debut collaboration, complemented by a rare Adam Beyer remix. This is special in every sense.

Tis the season for something different; interesting collaborations and the broadening of creative boundaries is the order of the day. Long-time friends and techno colleagues Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull are the latest to connect for a fresh production outing, 'We Don't Know Anything'. Inspired by the Buddhist saying 'Nothing is forever except change', the duo work alongside the Swedish band Frangie to craft an ascendent techno cut that explores existential questions about the future, all the while being propelled by a strong rhythmic underbelly.

Beyer's first remix in two years is inspired. The boss sharpens his focus on the vocal, while teasing out the melody, ripening the track for a mid-morning post-peak-time moment when the sun starts to bathe the dancefloor is a hazy gentle glow. A masterstroke.

"Listening to the track, it's obviously very connected to what's going on in the world right now. When | heard it for the first time, I fell in love with the parts so much I decided to do a remix on the spot. It's two of the old school crew, so the release is very dear to my heart." – Adam Beyer
