Destination Barcelona: the creative HQ of Lower & Osp. Two artists, notating our uncertain times with a poignant, emotion-rich signature that taps deep into some of electronic music's most evocative rudiments.

Previously spotted on the likes of Deeperfect, Moan Recordings, Bla Bla and Solar Distance, here they make their MOOD debut with two show-stopping compositions. 'Universe Gate' is a hurricane of a production as it subtly sets an atmosphere only to whip it up uncontrollably in a blink-and-miss build that's strong enough to open portals into whole new dimensions.

'Recycled', meanwhile, smelts down a slug-like bassline, rising chords and sweeping synths into a string-soaking emotional breakdown. With a broadside groove that pumps and sparkling hi-hat roll that accentuates the momentum and drive, for a tune called 'Recycled' it's resoundingly fresh… Just like the future for Lower & Osp. Having offered us gems (and pearls) on the likes of Revolution, TFU and Green Fetish, Australian techno spellbinder Sly Faux takes a giant leap to MOOD with three of his most immersive creations to date. Not just a clever name, Sly Faux is a savvy atmosphere technician, too. This is evident the moment the twinkling starlit intro of the EP title track ignites, gradually easing us into his dark, misty textures with a subtle sense of theatre. Dynamically developing in momentum throughout, it’s the perfect set opener. A MOOD enhancer, perhaps.

Flexing a more forthright sense of dark euphoria, ‘Hashes Of Eight’ is a thriving, driving peaktime cut. Armed with a persistent timeless hook, barbed vocal, yearning chords lilting sternly in the background and a pumping drum arrangement, it’s the type of track you can build a whole sequence around with emotional effect.

‘Violence Is Too Damn Hard’ seals the deal. Another ruminating build starts the journey before more rhythmic elements are introduced along with a sinewy arpeggio that gradually takes pole position in the mix. Fixing our focus with a classic sense of progressive suspense, the real drama can be found in the bottom end as ominous groans sweep sternly beneath. And the real pay off is found in the sense-melting sparkling breakdown.

Three tracks of timeless emotional techno, ‘Incandescent’ isn’t just the EP title track… It’s a signature Sly Faux is slowly making his own. We suspect there’ll be more to come…

The electric creative energy between Nicole Moudaber and Skin peaks once again: First came last summer’s ‘Someone Like You’. Their full ‘Breed’ opus followed, causing craterous rifts in the MOOD catalogue that were consummately filled by Skin’s Juvenal alter ego months later. Now ‘Love Someone Else’: a project that compounds the relationship between the two noir renegades as Nicole revisions Skunk Anansie with exceptional, perception-blurring results.

The main version skips the warm up exercises and goes straight in with one of Nicole’s warmest palpitating drum sets. Stately thunder: each drip-fed element plays a crucial role as we lead into the evocative, icy and ultimately timeless chords. Switching out the kicks for Skin’s ghostly vocal refrain, there’s a moment of total planet-aligning shivers before those thunderous beats kick back in.

Don’t be fooled by the second mix’s title; it’s not ‘Beatless’ in a traditional sense – there’s still a soft focus rhythm kept by the palpitating subs, and mechanical arpeggio, but her removal of her widescreen drums does three things: reveal the naked magic of the track, add glaciers of ice soul to Skin’s vocal on the breakdown and offer you a whole extra layer of mix creativity.

Two of Nicole’s most requested tracks lately, fittingly they were premiered during one of her and Skin’s select b2b sessions this summer. Yet another outlet for their electric creative energy, something tells us their work together still has much more to give.
