"Closer" was a part of Adelaide’s Subjoi EP released by Houses in Motion Recordings in 2017. Titled Flashing Lights (HIM004), this curation is a selection of woozy melodic House coated in a Lo-Fi patina. Vocal cuts and driving percussion permeate three original tunes exploring the scope of moods, from deep slow-burners to exploding dance floor starters. The title track edit, ‘Flashing Lights’, punctuates it all with oozing soulful vocal samples and a riff catchy in its simplicity. The first 2021 original release from rising electronic trio Model Man has arrived in the form of energetic new single ‘Sweet Surrender’, out July 9 via Mahogany Records.
Pairing pitched-up vocals and breakbeats with poignant piano chords and fluttering soundscapes, ‘Sweet Surrender’ finds a middle ground between rave-era hedonism and introverted ambient electronica.
Speaking about the making of ‘Sweet Surrender’, Model Mans says, “I made Sweet surrender between 3:AM and 7:AM fuelled on fizzy drinks. The BPM went up in accordance with my heart rate lol. I played the piano motif on my upright that was slightly out of tune at the time. For me, 'Sweet Surrender' is about re aligning with the natural urges. going on pure instinct. Letting go. Outer body type stuff.”
Since emerging on the scene, Model Man have garnered backing from both BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music whilst landing co-signs to Astralwerks and Defected. LJC had the motivation to make his "Kuon" EP in the first half of 2020. Full of ideas were jumping up in his mind after he finished a series of collaborations with different type of artists and musicians.
Four tracks are driven by the motivation with internal emotion and they are mixed with different styles: the original kind wave, the lovely dancehall, and the grime beat with self-humming vocals… You can find something intersting in "Kuon" which is not that typical standard from contemporary club scene. Through "Kuon" consists of many different type of elements, it has a common sense of Wave and a strong feeling about his personality.

Fred Gibson aka Fred again… began releasing music under his own name at the end of 2019 – a year that saw him involved as a songwriter or producer in 30% of the number one songs in the UK He achieved that level of success having worked with the likes of Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, FKA Twigs, Romy and recently a joint mixtape with Headie One GANG in 2020. He was also the youngest producer ever to receive the BRITs’ Producer of the Year award in 2020. Today marks a full step to independence with his album Actual Life (April 14 – December 17 2020) that blends club sensibilities and his own slick pop songwriting.
This album is unique in that it samples people’s voices to create themes for songs. Many of them are people he knows, like friends or fellow artists (Julia Michaels, Aminé, etc), while some could be people he has met on the street or found on social media. Actual Life is a celebration of life, connection and the human spirit in all of its qualities. It is an album built through pain and sorrow of the past year, not turning away from what has happened, but looking for ways to embrace the challenge and emerge somehow stronger. It is largely an uplifting and joyous album, looking to show the resilience of humanity.
The track "Julia (Deep Diving)" is constructed around an Instagram post by songwriter Julia Michaels : “The most beautiful thing about this sample to me is just the tone of Julia’s speaking voice,” Fred explains. “It’s so heartbreakingly fragile but kinda playful at the same time. Like her voice literally sounds like the fizzy excitement of first falling in love. I’m so grateful to her for letting me build a whole new thing out of it.”
