A testament to the growth of Adam Beyer’s scene-leading label, Drumcode annual A-Sides Vol.8 is the brand’s biggest yet.
The 25-track strong compilation features standout cuts Beyer has received over the last 12 months, but been unable to find room for in Drumcode’s regular release schedule, such is the volume and high standard of music that’s submitted.
The highlight-rich compilation includes Jamie Jones & Darius Syrossian’s buzzy Drumcode debut ‘Eyes of the Night’, Nicole Moudaber’s first DC release in 5 years with the mesmerizing ‘This Is Us’, Will Clarke’s bass-drenched re-work of Adam Beyer & Bart Skils ‘Your Mind’ and Joey Beltram’s first Drumcode release in 11 years with the retro-tinged ‘Can You Feel It’.
The beloved Alan Fitzpatrick returns to the fold with the searing ‘Heiße Rakete’, alongside label mainstays Layton Giordani, who drops the stirring chord-driven ‘Chrome’ and Wehbba with ‘Mantra’, combining techno classicism with future-focused groove.
There’s a troupe of debutants donning the Drumcode jersey for the first time, including BEC, Shelley Johannson, Anthony Castaldo, Avision, Zimmz, Woo York, SAMA (in a terrific collaboration with Secret Cinema) and Ilija Djokovic, who delivers a shimmering highlight with ‘Aura’, a particular favourite of Beyer’s over the last year. Raxon also debuts on the label after a couple of quality additions to the Truesoul back catalogue.

Luigi Madonna returns for his first Drumcode EP in five years, teaming up with fellow Neapolitan and label favourite Roberto Capuano.
We got our last taste of the creative synergy that marks Luigi Madonna and Roberto Capuano’s friendship when the pair dropped ‘Limitless’ in 2017, a brilliant addition to A-Sides Vol.6. Prior to that Luigi hadn’t dropped a cut on DC since 2015’s hook-driven ‘Magic Land’, while Capuano stands as one of the label’s most infallible contributors, last year’s ‘The Walker’ EP was typically impressive.
Crafted between two studios in a pre-COVID-19 world, the three-track conceptual EP opens with ‘Mad World’, as masterfully layered industrial hits and rides depict it’s narrative, while a pulsating melodic lead ensures heavy impact. ‘System Alert’ is inspired by the destructive effects of climate change and the track’s composition mirrors this malaise, as a pitch-bending synth elicits rhythmic chaos alongside Luigi and Roberto’s deft drum work. ‘Headquarter’ is steeped in drama and cinematic charm, backed by a distorted vocal sample, stormy oscillating synths and a sharp percussive backdrop. .

Up first is Get Enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. It is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. The title track, Toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. Cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. Remixing are the tech duo of Pleasurekraft, whose releases on Octopus and Mood Records have won them plenty of DJ and dancing fans. They layer in some dark melodies to SQ80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards. .
